I will suggest that the differences in power are attributable mostly to the cooler temps. As noted, these gauges are all just software (RPM * TPS * Secret-X-factor = torque) but it is based on "science". So if (for instance) the car is running hot and having to reduce timing, that would restrict power and theoretically the gauges would/could reflect that.
OP is at a disadvantage living in the clouds (altitude) but it's a known/proven fact that turbo engines generate more power as the temperatures decrease; denser air = more power = less detonation. You are welcome. Digress: I wonder if the car was running under sub-optimal traction conditions where the DSC was engaging, if the gauges would reflect that? I'm not going to do it, because I believe in looking where I am going when driving at WOT or when traction limited, but you brave folks could try it. Just don't blame me if you run off the side of a cliff doing your experiments.

The car was literally brand new, they had only fitted the M Performance parts a couple of days before and were only letting existing M car customers take it out, as it had only done ca. 200 miles so was nowhere near run in. When I got back from the 30 mins test drive I told the sales guy "don't worry, I didn't thrash it as I'm aware it isn't even run it" and he told me not to worry as "the car is restricted anyway until its running in service". Interesting and unprompted comment from him… |

BMW doesn't "restrict" performance prior to the 1200 mile service. Think about it, eventually they are going to sell their demo and they know damn well that it has been pushed hard. Telling people that it's "restricted" is just a tactic to make some future owner feel better about the purchase.

Car is long gone....that said there might be 335is 2011-2013 owners manuals on the internet. Its in there, that or do an internet look up on the car. Might be info there.
Since I had one & generally do the recommended break-in have no trouble remembering waiting for 1200 miles to roll by. Was a limited production run 2500 coupes 2500 convertibles. The regular 335's had switched off to the N55 single turbo with MT & AT. The "is" was burning up remaining stocks of N54 dual turbo engines. Transmissions were MT & unique to the USA 335's 7DCT's. They also has a distinctive ECU. Was a beta tester for the JB4 package for the car. Posts on the JB4 were made during the period on the bimmerpost & the other BMW 3 series forums. If they maintain the old data my posts will be there. EDIT BEAR-AvHistory #26 · Aug 29, 2012 Bottom of page 66 in owners manual. ***8220; Launch Control will not be available during break in period, refer to page 126***8221; for break-in procedures.
