It usually means a different software version, but it might not be. Car model? Spec dependent? Who knows. It seems like BMW isn't rolling out updates unless the car is still running the March version. BMW is a car company, they are new at OTA updates. Another example why Tesla is so far ahead and why other tech companies are predicted to enter the automobile space as electric cars act more like tech devices.

It's 12/1 and they are just now rolling out the July build when cars coming off the line have had this installed for awhile now.

You need to connect to the car WiFi to start uploading to the car and then install. You can only do it while the car is running.

I can’t hear a difference in the exhaust really. Maybe it’s only for the autos, but that farty noise on upshift isn’t there for the manuals that I can tell. I tried a few short shifts and shifting at redline and can’t tell a difference. I just got tint yesterday so can’t roll the windows down to hear, but it sounds basically the same to me. There might be slightly less bass in sports+ but I’m not sure.

It says it's only for Auto's. When you uploaded the update - how did you get it to intsall?

For those with the ZF8, and have done the update, what's the difference in the sound? I'd love to be able to turn off the sound coming through the speakers, without having to close the flaps (which then turns off ALL the sound).

the sound difference might be, but the rest of it would apply to any car. The update notification popped up on my phone, I downloaded it, and connected my phone to my car like everyone else.

In the release notes when you get the update it says

Experience a refined sound when starting the engine and clearer audio confirmation when shifting gears [only with 8 speed M steptronic]
The sound characteristics can be individually configured via efficient, sports, sports+. A quiter drive mode can be selected with the sound control button.

I downloaded the update, but didn't seem to work for me. I'm supposed to be able to choose active sound control in the setup menu now right? I also didn't notice any sound difference at all really lmao[IMG][/IMG]

You can choose it under the M1 and M2 setup

I don't see anything in that setup screen.

There is already a sound control button near the gear shift. If it's on/off can be saved in M1 & M2.

I thought this update just changed something in the way the existing sound control button works.

But, what exactly changed? No idea.

I think what they mean is that having the engine in Comfort, Sport and Sport+ will change the sound profile.

Needless to say, I just went for a quick drive with engine in Sport+ and didn't notice any change in sound when shifting

BMW really dropped the ball with this whole thing. I can't get mine to install either. I spent 2 hours trying to figure it out and can't get the car to install it even though I have everything 'uploaded.'

Did you drive the car before you tried to update it? In the instructions for M cars it says that car needs to be cooled all the way down then after it cools down you can install it.

I got home , put it in the garage and it was ready to install. Car was not cooled down so idk if that matters. Maybe it depends how long you been driving or if it was really hot. I had only been out doing a few stops. Not a long drive.
