Yes. Stock to stock is minor. Have you watched the videos?

Regardless; I’m happy we’re both able to get what we want.

For me growing up and having owned a bunch of M3 generations, M3's were always RWD and real drivers cars. We always looked down on Audi and other 4WD cars as being less fun and a lot more more boring. Nothing like hanging the rear end out in a RWD car with no traction control!

Now that I'm a bit older, I can see the appeal of AWD especially in very bad climates. I could care less about drag racing times (I had to Google with 'the DIG' was ) but have done a lot of track driving and always associated AWD with bad understeer

If I had been offered both this time around I might have been tempted to consider AWD being in NY, but I have a winter wheel set up and the car is a weekend car that doesn't need to leave the garage ever if I don't want it to, so am quite happy with my car. Ask me again in February!

I went xDrive. I waited for this car, over the RWD model. I just couldnt wait to get back into an AWD performance car. The sure footedness, and smoothness of AWD, is unbeatable. I just enjoy how the car just accelerates without weight transfer, and overall just the trust you put into the system. Im still in break in, so, I have yet to hammer the car, or toss it into a turn too hard.

Ive gone over 5K a few times, mostly getting used to the transmission. I was trying different modes, to see what things did, and when you dont realize what youre doing with the settings, and you take off from a redlight and youre in manual mode, and you dont think its anything that youre doing.

I actually thought the car just wouldnt shift. Well, it was drivers error. I have over 400 miles on the car, now. Ive had it for 10 days, and I just finally put gas in it, yesterday. $70 in california money, for premium. I wouldnt trade it for anything.

In Colorado I would pick AWD if it were my only car, otherwise manual with RWD because that’s the only way to get a manual.

I would never make anywhere close to full use of the car’s performance so I don’t care too much about the performance differences between trims.

I have a GMC AT4 2500 for the winter months, also have manual F80 and 718 GT4 for the weekend. I want something that I can drive to work, and possibly track once in a while, I guess this would be a "daily". I'm afraid that getting AWD I will loose a bit of the experience especially with RWD allowing a little MDM slippage on cornering. To my knowledge in order to have the AWD in RWD mode you need to turn off all nannies and do not have MDM.

Haven't seen or heard of any track reviews between the two.
Really curious to see what people are saying on track for the AWD.
Oxymoron

Yes I watch the videos. I’ve seen people with AWD get 0-60 in 2.87 seconds. The best i did in my RWD (now sold) was 3.9sec. That’s a 25% different!!!! That’s a major difference.

I refuse to believe you switched cars based on an improvement on 0 to 60.

Of course not. It’s overall better. Plus the second round I was able to get different color schemes both for paint and interior that I like better. Oh and did I mention it’s considerably faster 0 to 60?

I don't drag race. And I'd rather save my funds for the top winter tires and other mods down the line. Unlike the vast majority of people here, I didn't have issues with wheel spin on my F80, because I would listen to the car and let off the gas when the wheels weren't sticking. But don't take it from me, I'm not Lewis Hamilton, unlike others on this forum.

For me it's always about opportunity cost (i.e. what else could I be doing with the $4k). So I stuck with RWD, even though AWD was available.

Then why not just get a regular 3 series? You know since speed and agility aren’t important to you. Think of all the mods you could get after only spending 40K and not 80K.

Lol… it's funny how otherwise rational people try to make themselves feel better about their decision after the fact. Classic confirmation bias.

Are you implying the delta in performance between a 3 series and M3 is similar to M3 RWD versus M3 AWD? That's not the kind of response I would expect from an enthusiast -"get a regular 3 series if you don't want AWD M3"

If you're happy with your faster 0-60 time great for you, not everyone is drag racing between stop signs. Most of my spirited driving is happening at 30 mph to 80 mph. I daily drive about 10 miles a week, and when i drive on the weekend I have my family in the car, and have very minimal interest in the marginal AWD traction gain.

Different strokes for different folks.

No doubt, but it's also a recipe for happiness in life, be happy with what you have rather than always wishing for the next best thing.
