Hi

After selling all my BMWs in the last year I decided to order a G83 M4C Cab.

Because if chip shortages apparently BMW is removing options at random and was told my Ultimate Package (I got literally every option) would not have Ventilated Seats.

My question: Do you guys think my leather will still be perforated with ducts under so I can do some kind of Hw retrofit and coding later?

I am freaking out but can't cancel the order because there is nothing else to buy (new at MSRP) in this crazy market!

Note: I know. First world problems…

I'm not in Canada and didn't order ventilated seats, but my seats are still perforated.

I believe the seats are perforated regardless of options but as to what happens under the seats if you don't have the ventilation option, I have no idea.

Serious question, when would you really need to use cooled seats in Montreal?

I have the option but not sure if I'd ever end up using it here.

I don't know I am in NH, and I ordered the vent seats when the winters are this cold , the summers feel proportional and the vents seem like a welcome luxury

Cooled/vented seats don't do anything for me, and I live in the South where it really gets hot, and the car sits in the sun all day.

I suspect that it would be a relatively easy matter of retrofitting the pump and ducting into the seats, with a hideously complicated and possibly impossible matter of re-coding the car's computer to tell it that it now has the option, so that you can turn it on and off.

Since the shortage is in microchips and not air pumps, I think sourcing (figuring out the part number), installing and coding that replacement chip could prove to be a huge challenge.

After writing all of this, I wonder now, what's the point of the OP's original question? You're not going to cancel the order anyway, so what does it matter if you can retrofit the option or not? They will probably give you a (totally inadequate) refund for the missing features if that makes you feel any better.

try calling the genius number or sending a direct message to BMWUSA on social media and asking them to make sure you are getting the ventilated seats. This car is a lot of money. You should get what you want.

Its a convertible so in the hot July and August months when its 95F-105F it's necessary.

You are correct. They have refunded a stupid 1100$CAD.

If I am to keep the car, knowing I can do the retrofit is comforting to me.

Coding is the easy part in my case. Ducting and mechanical stuff not so much.

From what I understand, since I have the VIN its too late, the car is made!

Other than the wireless charger I ordered pretty much everything and got everything I ordered, including Laser light, back up camera. I've heard of things being cancelled but have not run into anyone I know actually having ordered options left off.

I have the ventilated seats … they're just okay. Wouldn't option them in hindsight and I'm in the SE US. Don't worry about it and enjoy the extra cash!

I dont know if anything’s changed for the g8x, but this thread shows there’s a number of fans within the seat cushions. Might be a pain to diy but I have no experience trying

OP, perusing your garage, it appears you suffer the same affliction as I do (or did) -- AADD. The ventilated seats are nice to have but not a deal-breaker, either to the decision to accept the car as ultimately configured, or to enjoy the car for the brief time you'll have it.

Yes, the seats are perforated (whether ventilated or not). Yes, ventilation makes a subtle difference if you perspire easily (you won't feel air movement but your summer clothes will remain dry). Yes, I ordered and received that option in my M4. Yes, I could live without that feature without a second thought.

Yes, I will live with perforated and will investigate a retrofit later.

I am waitlisted for a 992 Turbo S Cab and as soon as I can get it the M4 will go anyway. Unless I really enjoy the M4 but without a dual clutch tranny I know I can't be fully content…

If ventilated seats were not available for my G83, I would have ordered the carbon buckets then.

If they’re anything like the seats in the M8, and I think they’re nearly identical, you won’t notice it in the heat. They were very ineffective in the South Florida summer heat.

Go sit in a 992 without vented seats and you will find the seats much more comfortable than the vented 992 seats. Not much bottom seat padding in vented 992 seats.

My 2020 992 C4S cab had vented seats and I didn't feel uncomfortable in them. They were the 18 way adjustable ones. I ordered same for the Turbo S Cab.

Must be my fat rear as to why I like the unvented seats on my 992.

I just added ventilated seats to my G83 order. A small price for what seems to be a small upgrade, but in the Atlanta heat even a small bit of vent may be helpful.
