Same. Zero miles added to the car during my break in.

But then again they could've just flew up and down the block really quick which wouldn't have added a single mile.

How about replacing the vehicle under warranty.

They went full Doogie Howser ecstasy on your back seat.

Count yourself lucky, could’ve been a lot worse.

Thank you everyone for the input. When I went to pick up the car I brought it up to the manager and he printed a map of the route and said something about needing this 5 miles because they have to test the car. Sounded bogus but what else could I really say.

The bright side was I used this as a springboard for them to agree to close up my glove compartment free of charge for my 335i that they misdiagnosed a long time ago. They should have done that from the get go but this was from work they did a year ago. Long story.

Could you refer me to your friend?
I am planning on bringing it in 6/11 AM

I think it's good practice to test drive a car and make sure all is as expected. I know my independent guy used to always do it when he did any suspension work etc which I was happy about. might be a bit excessive for an oil change but I can see the logic with resetting the TPMS - that's just good customer service. I would not expect to have to rest the TPMS after picking up my car from A shop

I would not be paranoid about someone joy riding your car, they wouldn't keep their job very long if that was the case

I had my break-in service done this morning. I have never owned a brand new vehicle, let alone one with a warranty, so this was my first time ever taking a vehicle for service. I always have done my own maintenance and repairs, so I am unsure if what I experienced was "standard".

The service advisor drove the vehicle in and out of the service bay, not the technician.

About an hour after being driven into the bay I received a text message with a link to a short video of the vehicle inspection. Technician pointed out good tire condition, the services being performed for the break-in, that he topped off both coolant reservoirs, and there is no noted damage under the vehicle.

The vehicle went in with 1,242 miles and was delivered back to me with the same mileage. I expected this since I physically witnessed the service advisor drive it into and out of the bay. It was not taken on a joy ride.

I waited for the service, which took approx 2 hours total. Vehicle was obviously already at operating temperature when I arrived. I cannot say if this had anything to do with lack of test drive or not, but I am glad no miles were added.

Has anyone taken your car in for the 1200 mile service, only for them to tell you diff fluid is on back order due to a shortage and they can't do the diff fluid? If so, is this a nationwide thing?

There was a time when this was happening earlier in the year. Then supplies seemed to come back. Sounds like there is a shortage again.

Took mine in on Friday and they had everything fwiw. They put on 3 miles on the car, seems reasonable enough. When I was a teenager working at a Mercedes dealer I did a whole lot worse

Why stop there? The OP should demand a new car and that the next child born to the owner or GM be named after him.

I would sue for pain and suffering as well.

Man I remember when I was this anal....it's not fun. It's 5 miles, may or may not have been required, but i assure you, the car is fine... Go enjoy it. If they broke something, it's under warranty.

So without the diff service….you're car isn't truly "broken in"….right? You planning on getting that done soon too?

I have seen a few break in services with only oil change.

This exactly.

I work at a Mercedes dealership and I can tell you, every time an AMG comes in, they fully rip it around the block a few times that you can smell the heat inside my office.

I will have the BMW HAS kit installed at the same time as the break in service.

If they really need to put some miles in... Will ask to get one hour and do 50 miles by myself before getting back for chassis alignment. Will be better than doing it right away without miles on it.

It's a good combo
