I've seen that too, part of the reason I've stuck w the sport seats, if you're DD the car it'll require lots of maintenance to prevent. I've heard something along the lines of heat treatment to get rid of the wrinkles because it was common on the f8x platform.

I know one of the guys local to me uses a wet towel and a heat gun to tighten it back up.

Are there any recommended coverings or leather protection products that can help with this issue?
I know IND has the side bolster protection which was more of a wear & tear concern from what I read before: https://ind-distribution.com/product...-protector-set |

I believe the M5CS buckets are larger correct? bolsters are prob the same but the seat width is larger, a buddy of mine had the CS, and those buckets were substantially more comfortable than the g8x seats in longer periods of time

I put GYEON Q² Leather Shield on my entire interior when I first got my G83. Currently 9200 miles driven and no signs of wrinkling or wear. When I do get some stains from my jeans dye transfer it is easy to wipe off and doesn't stay.

Honestly, I don't know. My assumption was that they were the exact same seats.

I've got 13K miles on my carbon buckets and they're a little wrinkled but it doesn't bother me. Like Limegrntaln said, one of our buds uses a heat gun and says the wrinkles are easy to fix if it bothers you.

Ok ok ok! I added the carbon buckets and sent my build to my dealer and they just called me back and said my build date is going to be pushed back because of the buckets. figures......

This is not bespoke to the CF buckets?? My f82 m4's seats did the same thing and those were not buckets. Those seats were the same as the regular g80 seats more or less.
I have the buckets in my g80 now and the butt pad looks a tad wrinkled at 22k miles but nothing that noticeable. The base/sport seats suck on the g80s. The f80 comp seats look WAY better. BMW somehow downgraded the base seats in the new gen. Buckets are the way to go. |

Said it before and i'll say it again, BMW made the entrance bolster on the seat WAY too high. Im by no means a big person, and with 1700 miles on CS, the bolster is already starting to show a little wear. VERY annoying.

Get the covers from IND. Pretty much the only solution right now.

It's the side bolster that takes a hit, at least for me. Doesn't look like there is a cover for those?

PSA:
Please treat your leather within the first 3 months of owning the car. The Merino leathers are quite a bit more pliable, and a good leather coating (like the Gyeon mentioned above) or porous treatment (like Colourlock Leather Shield) will help tremendously down the road. |

I use colourlock products on the leather in my house and my cars. They really help with keeping dye transfer to a minimum, and moisture absorption (which causes the wrinkling) from happening. It's basically a 2 or 3 step process, depending on the age of the leather.
For a new car, you would basically 1) Clean it with Colourlock mild leather cleaner, which will get dirt and grease off pretty well. For dirtier leather, they also make a strong leather cleaner https://www.obsessedgarage.com/colle...eather-cleaner 2) Protect it with Colourlock leather shield. This is basically a non-permanent "sacrificial" layer that keeps the leather from absorbing stains and moisture as it ages (and the manufacturer's coating disintegrates). It has to be re-applied once every six months for the driver touch points, and once a year for the rest of the car. https://www.obsessedgarage.com/colle...leather-shield Here's a vid showing the basics of application: https://youtu.be/B10ZFrCpISU The biggest difference between the Colourlock products and the leather coatings is that the coatings are non-porous, and semi-permanent. They last longer, but they don't allow the level of breathability that "bare" leather has. Honestly, I don't see any downsides to either method. *Disclaimer - I am not affiliated with Obsessed Garage - I just think they provide a good library of DIY products and training on how to use them. You can pick any of these products up directly from the manufacturer. |
