Clear coat carbon fiber roof?

Quick question, I detail my car myself and notice for some reason my carbon fiber roof shows a few, very light scratches. My paint( knock on wood) has nothing. I truly know how to wash and detail a car, but wondering if the clear coat is thinner on the carbon fiber roof then that of the cars paint. The roof seems really tough to look mint, especially in fluorescent garage light. Thanks

I don't think the carbon roof is more prone to scratches than the rest of the car but it is probably more noticeable because it is black. I think some mild paint correction and then PPF would take care of it. Just make sure to use a reputable shop.

If you are comfortable polishing - then just use an ultra fine compound with a soft or medium foam pad, and then finish with a layer of ceramic to add an extra layer or protection and fill in any minor scratches.

Polishing is something anyone can learn to do, all it takes is time and patience. Plus buying a basic yet decent random orbital, proper polishing pads, and polish will cost less than any reputable detailer AND you can use it forever whenever the need arises again. Good rule of thumb is to always start with the most mild polish and pad combination.

Ceramic coating is a good final step, but PPF offers maximum long-term UV protection. Prior to either of those though, you'll want to polish regardless.

how much time and patience are we talking about? what's the risk of messing it all up if one is reasonably competent at picking new things up?
