Just ordered a '23 G80 - but 1-2 year wait?

Hello from a former F87 owner!

Following the disappointing G87 leaks (which I was holding out for), I went ahead and ordered a '23 M3 over the weekend (9/24) and wanted to share the specs:
- Base 6-speed
- 826M wheels with the silver face
- Carbon buckets in Fiona Red
- Carbon interior trim
- Executive package
- Parking assist package
- M brakes with red calipers
- Drive recorder
- Laserlights with shadowline
- Carbon exterior package (includes the roof)
- When I get an allocation, will try to go with an individual color

To say the least, I'm very excited as this will be my first M3. My dealer says that this will be a 1-2 year wait time... is that accurate? Just browsing the forum, and I see that people are getting VIN's much sooner than that, unless I'm wrong.

Call around local dealers. I ordered on Aug 18th, and got an allocation on September 12th for Oct production.

There are a couple spreadsheets floating around this forum, maintained by a broker. Check those for more info on allocations and possible leads. Note that it'll get a lot more lively when the next round of allocations hits dealers.

Make a lot of phone calls. If you are ok with a price that exceeds MSRP and some build deviation, your wait may be short. It seems there are a number of Jahre M3's around in particular. Best case you find a vehicle someone bailed on due to cold feet or whatever.

The market may be shifting but it's been a situation where dealers over MSRP had short waits and dealers at MSRP had long waits. Also, M4's seem easier to obtain than M3.

If he's telling you 1-2 year wait, you're with the wrong dealer.

Many other dealers will be running 6 month deliveries if not less.

This discussion would give you an idea of the overall timeline.

Order to delivery timeline - Poll https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1948459

You would have better luck by adding your name to multiple waitlists rather than waiting for an allocation from a single dealer.

Keep calling, one dealer told me 12-18 months, after asking me if I was a returning customer (am not).

Call around. I placed a deposit 35 days ago and my car was dispatched from the factory today. Barring a long wait at port, I should come in under 90 days deposit to delivery.

I appreciate that doesn't seem to be the norm but I had no prior relationship or anything. I worked with several dealers. I called probably 25+ dealers in this process (I am still getting random emails from some - like 10 minutes ago BMW Main Line offered me a Fire Orange Jahre for 126k, LOL). I started this process maybe mid August and continued after I placed my deposit until I got an allocation.

I ended up going with the M4 due to the wait. My dealer only does MSRP so they have a lot of customers waiting. They told me they stopped taking deposits on M3s because they had an insanely long wait which exceeded expected allocations, but their M4 list was short.

I've also read that there are also some delays due to carbon buckets, especially Fiona Red. I feel that the market is starting to cool as I am seeing a lot more brand new BMW M3s (mostly Jahres for MSRP) for sale through cargurus.com. Hopefully it's not 1-2 years, but more like 9-12 months.

If you are looking for a car and dont mind paying a bit over MSRP, look at the list by Daylaborer and Autocompanion. You can find MSRP deals and if you do performance center delivery, you can order your car from any dealer. If you want it close to home and dont want to pay over MSRP, I would call dealerships within 200 miles from your home and ask them if they have an open allocation and see if they would do MSRP. In this day and age, it would be a crime to wait 1 -2 yrs for a car esp with the way inflation is going, your 2024 M3 will cost another 5K more which is the max most dealers charge for an open allocation. Good luck

ADMs are rarely advertised online. I made a list of every dealer in America that is selling a Jahre, and then contacted 20+ of them. All are asking ADMs, sometimes up to $50K. That said, sometimes the final selling price is less than $5K over (e.g., $105K on a model with a $101,295 MSRP).
