It's strange around here M3 (4door) have always been more rare and kept a slightly better value than the M4. Maybe because of the practical aspect.

It's typically like this... the coupe version of the car typically costs more. An S5 costs more than an S4... A C class coupe costs more than a C class sedan...

There's a couple reasons for this. First reason being that they cost more to produce due to lower take rates. Apply economies of scale and a higher volume sedan will have a lower per unit production cost than the equivalent, lower volume coupe. You may have some cases where the pricing is similar among both counterparts and in that case it's reasonable to assume that pricing from the sedan has been inflated to subsidize lower pricing of the coupe (meaning what would typically be priced at $40k for the sedan and $43k for the coupe, perhaps both cars are priced equally at $42k).

Automakers might see this as a way of justifying the existence of the coupe. I know Mercedes has looked at eliminating some of their coupe counterparts.

The other reason, which I'm guessing, is the fact that coupes represent a niche market. From a marketing standpoint, they may use this to justify the upcharge by positioning it as the "sportier" alternative.

Was at dealer this morning and saw the curved display in i4 M50 and iX...have to say it doesn't look bad in person...most likely a change I could get used to.

Just adding to your point, I happened to take a photo of the screen on i4 M50 so I attach it here.

It looks like an 'ugh' to me. At that point I never thought one day the screen would be in my car lol.

Look at those fingerprints. The future isn't bright, it's smudged!

For the options I ordered (M3 Competition), the price went up just under $3000. According to the ordering guide, the Full Merino Leather option creates a reduction in price for the Executive Package ($1800 -> $1550). Black Sapphire Metallic paint is also a STD color now, so that reduces the cost by $550. Parking Assist Pkg. also went from $800 -> $700.

Also, I noticed that Laser Light is an option on the M3. I thought BMW was doing away with that. (I actually was going to get the Laser Lights)

Metallic paint is $650, not a no-cost option

It probably looks better when it's on. When it's off it looks like the two screens are actually one as you can barely see the dividing bar between them, and initially I thought it was a iPhone 50 MaxMaxMaxMax.

I don't see that on the pricing guide. Did BMW make a mistake?

Looks very "No-Costy" to me.

I read it this way too, that they are no cost if it has an "x". I've seen the $650 thrown out there too, but not sure where people have seen this.

That's a mistake in the pricing guide. BMW has already announced that metallic paints are $650 (see the sticky in this forum)

Think it's missing, supposed to say $650 in the header for special paints...same way it shows for the M4. It was called out in the 23MY pricing changes bulletin for all metallic paints going from $550 to $650.

Well crap. Guess that means it's right at around $3700 price increase for the same options as before. M340i gets almost no price increase, while the M3 gets shafted. Just my luck.

I think I'm going to get rid of the Laser Lights and Extended Shadowline headlights. I need to find a way to shave off a few bucks from my previous build.

Anyone think dropping Executive package will kill resale? Seems like most of these cars have them but it’s a good way to shave a few bucks I guess.

That's a pretty standard option. Not having it would likely hurt resale, IMHO. Every $1000 costs about $17.75/mo, if that makes you feel better. But get the car you want, not what someone else will want in five years.

If you're buying this car with resale in mind, you need to get the Big 3 Packages.
  • Driving Assistance Pro Package
  • Parking Assistance Package
  • Executive Package

In today's world of high tech cars, you will KILL resale value if you don't get these.

I'd actually pass on any car that had them.

Disagree. Why worry about reseal value. Get the car YOU want and can afford. Enjoy the car while it's yours.
