Drive recorder or dash cam?

Hi all, just picked up my first G80 with the drive recorder. If you have the Drive recorder option, did you also put in a dash cam? Thanks!

I have the Viofo A119 V3. More than anyone needs unless you want rear as well. No need to spend hundreds on these "4K HDR sensors" that have very similar quality. Easy install and cheap.

I have the Drive Recorder *also* since that will also get rear and side views in case I need those too. I've had the unfortunate experience of having it activated and it does work, FWIW.

Drive recorder is not a real dash cam IMO. I like the FitCamX since it looks factory. Other have complained about the picture quality but I think it looks good. Below is the FixCamX and a short video of the quality…

BTW, it was my son’s first time driving my X3MC last year which is the video from the FitCamX.

Have an A119 v2 in my son's car and would not recommend. Voice command sucks, and this is now the third time the firmware has locked the unit up from turning on. I'm going to have to force load firmware again. I forget how I did it last time.

Nighttime quality is not what I expected from the Sony Starvis 2 sensor either.

I use drive recorder alone. Potato video quality but I figure it's enough to determine liability in case something happens, which is all I need.

But the question is will it record automatically or will u remember to quickly press record after accident?
It’s shit design. Why not make it continuously record last 15 min. 20 seconds is pathetic in todays day and age.

Well I have the v3 so perhaps they addressed all of that but I haven't had a single problem with mine and I've had to pull footage a couple times now. Also I don't think voice command for anything is a selling point. Every single voice function I've used for anything that's not Google Assistant or Siri has been an absolute nightmare, BMW's included.
