Reading this issue, let me think to the same problem I've experienced on my Cooper S R53 back in 2009. Crank bearing blowed off, and I had to replace the whole engine.

Thus the delay I'm having on my build week.....it's something not so bad in the end.

so just to be clear:

0066570100: Checking the installation of the camera and TRSVC control unit, retrofitting if necessary

0065480300: Retrofitting the receiver audio module

STOP021673: G1x G2x G3x G8x F9x Check Installation Camera and Control Unit TRSVC

STOP021954: Main Bearing shell

This is all I have listed. But I'm still not very convinced, because my VIN falls in that build date window.

It’s also only some of the engines. Like someone had said before, they know which engines were effected and you seem to be one of the lucky ones not effected by this.

I read that in an earlier post, but I also eluded to a situation I was in, when I had a car that had 800 miles on it, and the same thing happened, my VIN wasn't named, and it left me stranded with a high pressure fuel pump failure, even though my VIN wasn't part of the recall. Its just hard to say if I trust it. Now if I want to tune this thing, this will always be in the back of my mind as an issue.

To be honest, it's way to early to be panicking/paranoid. We don't know what the nature of the recall is yet. Could be a very specific bad batch of parts, that have been identified hence why not everyone is effected even in time period listed. Could be improper build of motors. Considering its only listed between a very narrow time period. It leads me to believe it's not an overall flaw with components of the motor. The 2021 models have been being built prior to this and none are named in the recall.

Hopefully clarification will be provided into next week, it sucks that the information was dropped on a Friday from what appears to be a "leak" and nothing offical from BMW yet.

I'm hoping for the best possible outcome. I know some people were already waiting on their cars, who already had stop sales and now they are hit with this as well.

Sorry for anyone impacted by this. Am I reading this right, that the shell bearing issue impacts all B47, B57, B58 and S58 engines (as per the defect code description line in the code), or ‘only’ S58’s.

All manufacturers have pretty good traceability for critical and safety components.

Even for a smaller critical component, they can trace back to batch or date of production with suppliers and narrow down the vehicles.

Because BMW like all other major manufacturers tracks which engine # went into a specific chassis # and which engines received a specific batch of a part #. All this data is collected for analysis.

Why anyone would give BMW money these days is beyond me. I know I'm now going to get banned, but this is ridiculous.

We both are in the same boat! My car is currently at the dealership and I would need to go in to sign the papers.

I checked both sites and 0 recall atm. But that may can change days from now?

I was told by my local dealership, the dealership I bought the car from, and BMW Ag that my car is not affected as of right now.

Did you checked your vin on the sites?

At this point, I don't know what to do either. Picking it up Monday or Tuesday.

Yes I did and mines affected

Godammit BMW can there be one M engine without a inherit weakness

Jokes aside, the S58 is a beastly engine no doubt.

Why does this only affect cars within the last few months and not all the cars in general?

It's a bad batch of bearings confined to certain build dates. The engine has been out for a while in the X3/4M so it's not a design issue.

Check your vin using the BMW U.K. recall page. Not all cars produced in the date range are affected.

My car entered production within the date window, but only exterior body assembly on Sep 23 … so I'm a bit on edge. Nothing yet for me on the UK site aside from the RAM retrofit. It's been at the outbound port for a week now.

I wonder if the bearing issue will show up later or if they've identified all affected engines already.

I'm pessimistic the RAM retrofit will be resolved quickly.

Has anyone had any success negotiating concessions from BMWNA or their dealers due to extended waits?
