Can my tire be plugged?
Last few days I've noticed my left-rear tire is losing about 1 PSI per day. When it was down 3 PSI after three days I decided to look for the problem.
Found it. This nail is about 2 1/4 inches from the inner edge of the tire. Do you think it can be plugged/patched? Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 - rear size is the standard 285/30 ZR20 Again, a very slow leak at this time but obviously I'd like to fix it. Having my summer tires put back on in about a week but these all-season tires still have around 8/32 tread depth so I'd like to continue using them next winter if possible.

personally I would never plug one of these performance tires, especially if you constantly drive fast or drive down curvy roads, last thing you want is for a plug to fail and now you've crashed your car
id only be comfortable with a patch, as far as patching goes that's borderline but I would say its possible to patch that, just make sure its not a plug |

Yeah, I really meant to patch the tire, not plug it. I'm rarely fortunate enough to have fun/curvy roads to push it on. My commute is mostly 30-50mph on straight suburban streets, traffic lights, stop & go traffic, etc.
I had a tire on my wife's X7 get a nail in a similar spot in the tread. The tire shop patched it and it worked good as new for the rest of our time with that car (~13,000 more miles).

People have been plugging tires for years with ZERO issues.
I get the abundance of caution but I think it’s a little ridiculous on this forum sometimes. That nail is in the meat of the tire and has plenty of tread depth. It’s an all season tire. Not a track tire. When I was younger I had a front tire blow out on the hwy. my 1992 VW Corrado. Nothing happened I just pulled over put the spare on. Geez it’s a damn nail… |

BTW, I love the speed triggered spoiler on the Corrado. Had a friend that had a VR6 one in the 90’s that was dark green. Saw a red one a couple of months ago that seemed practically mint driving around in town. 🤌 |
