#1 reason is cost cutting. It's cheaper to slap a single screen on as opposed to having multiple screens along with multiple buttons. I work in supply chain and manufacturing so I see this type of thing all the time.

#2, which works out very nicely for automakers, is that customers (outside of us enthusiasts) tend to think these large screens look "futuristic".

So it's a bit of a slam dunk for automakers to incorporate these large screens. Enthusiasts be damned.

And the unfortunate part about having performance line-ups based on their everyday lease-friendly models, which is what the majority of their customers are going to drive. We're going to get their "hand-me-downs" because it's not worth it to them to cater to the <2% that want classic motorsport and not futuristic design.

I'm not sure you know what marketing is. The Marketing division of a company isn't responsible for working on BOM or development costs.

Sorry for not being more clear. "Sustanable Design" is marketing. I thought most people would make the connection in the context of the original post. Didn't expect people to use it as an opportunity to post a condescending response. Now I remember why I rarely post.

I don't know. I think I'd like this better with a red interior and red calipers, or even the fjord blue interior with blue calipers. It's almost too understated for me.

And yes, I need better integration of that screen please. It almost looks unfinished, like a prototype. Come on, BMW, you know you can do better than that.

My guess is that people will buy this car with the new screens and live with it. I can't see the screens "growing" on me. It'd be something I'd live with and it'd probably annoy me every time I see it; at least during the day, but what are the options otherwise? Buy used? Buy a Blackwing? Those are about the only two options I can think of if you want a car in this segment.

Pretty sure it will have the ID8, skip to about 9 minutes,
Yeah that's exactly what i mean. ID8 with the big screen and buckets seats don't match.

Someone in financial planning. I'm sure they are SUBSTANTIALLY cheaper.

Woaah seeing this image I have to say I am so happy I went for Sepang Bronze on my (yet to come) 330e Touring with M pack, incl the black leather with blue stitched M sportseats and the blue M brake system 😊

First time I see the colour on a new 3 series, so it was quite a gamble for me to be honest, but it is going to be nice 🤞🏼

Those screens are kind of a no-go for me. Maybe they'll grow on me. Even Mercedes is incorporating the same style screens in their cars. I guess it's the way of the future, but there is functionality of a hood over your important gauges so sun glare doesn't become an issue. Will this be an issue with two iPad type screens? I'd assume BMW knows what they're doing, but I'd think it'd be hard to see in certain lighting/glare situations. I think they should have saved the big screens for the next major interior design to do something more like the Mercedes EQS.

Here's a good vid of the i4 M50 with I assume are the same screens:
My merc gls is waay better executed…
Agreed. And the way they've integrated it in the E63, to take another aesthetically superior example, shows that screenification needn't lead (as in ID8's case) to a total abandonment of imagination and tact. Mercedes at least make some attempt to preserve the impression of a binnacle.

Pity the G80's front passenger who, glancing sideways, gets a perfect backside view of those spindly little legs upon which that cinema seems to teeter. I wouldn't assume that this, unlike the grille, is something everyone will automatically or eventually learn to 'get used to'.

This actually has pushed me away from ordering a 2023 M340XI. The screen just doesn't flow at all. It's such a beautiful redesign on the exterior, but it doesn't work with the interior. I rather look for a used one or go with an X3 M40I or jump to an X3M Comp.

This a fantastic color...perhaps one of the few that can unseat Donnington for me. Well chosen spec. Although....the screens are tough to like.
