The G82 on the other hand just doesn't look appealing to me, as pointed out in the Throttle House review its not the front end, it's the entire exterior design that looks out of whack. No doubt it's a great performance car but TBH I cannot think of an uglier BMW made coupe... ever. Like you, I'm hanging out for the G87 M2, and based on the mules we've seen so far and the updated interior we see in the G80/82 I think it will be a winner. |

steering response shouldn't be an issue if never seeing the track. Looks like a fun car

I think his comment about a delay is worth noting. His comments about the looks are not more important than anyone else’s thoughts on that subject. That comment about the delay made me even happier that I ordered the 6MT G80. |

"It's a much more capable car than the one it's replacing... It's just less angry, less lairy... And there's a bit of a point to make there. Some people will miss that personality. They really will. This car doesn't quite have that grab you by the scruff of the neck, irritate you, constantly jostle you down the road feel" - Chris Harris.
Sedan Clan made a good point earlier about not confusing good performance with a car that is trying to kill you which I totally agree with. But I always think of my M4 as more of a crazy best mate. The life and soul of a night out. Sure you have a headache the next day and you can't find your wallet but it was still the best night out you've ever had. No doubt I'll be safer in the G8x. And faster. Interior looks way better. But as much fun? |

And again the moral of the story is that it's virtually impossible for BMW to build an M car that satisfies everybody. Many say they loved the rambunctious nature of the F series M car but there are as many who hated that aspect even here on this fora. In the pseudo celebrity You-tubers world, it was also the same, some love it some hated it. Consequently, BMW decided to make a more livable car this time, that is just as good without some of the theatrics of its predecessor.
Can't knock BMW for something many asked for. Anyhow, I have no gripe in that regard; my only concern now is the ZF8. They should have stuck with the DCT and make some updates instead of going this route. Anyhow, a test drive is in order but if what the pseudo celebs are saying is true, I would opt for the manual.

To be clear, I ordered one and feel lucky I stuck with my plan to get the 6MT. I think his other disappointing comment about a delay will not be relevant to the manual. I don’t care about his, or anyone’s, thoughts on the looks. No one else gets to tell you what should look good to you. However, I really don’t like the version of the grill on the regular 4 series. I was very worried, I’d finally be in a position to buy an M3 and wouldn’t love how it looks. That would have sucked pretty hard. Thankfully, I do like the version on the G8x a lot; even more so in person. I find it interesting that his review was, in a few important ways, opposite to pretty much every other review. No one else is calling out the steering/chassis dynamics with quite same enthusiasm (maybe Autogefuel). And no reviews have commented about the delay he mentions. Perhaps he just REALLY wanted a manual or a DCT, doesn’t like automatics, and can’t quite forgive it? Could it be that simple? |

Now this is an extremely complimentary review, very good ... note at 19:40 when he started the engine and 20:40 to 24:10 when he talked about "steering" ... this is different from the other "steering" which some (pretentious and some not) enthusiasts like to appear to talk about

For sure, and they all love that engine. Imagine if BMW had leaned a bit more towards traditional vs so radical with the grill. It looks like the after-marketers will be dreaming up all kinds of new fronts. Not sure what we'll be seeing for variations on the streets a year or two from now!
