BMW M3 and M4. Six Generations of an Icon - A Brief Drive Through the History

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
The M3/M4 has evolved tremendously over its six generations.
To really help visualize this, BMW puts the G80 M3 and G82 M4 on the track with its predecessors in this short clip.

Although this isn't a review and there's nothing objectively learned from this video, it's a nice touch to see the G82 passing each generation beginning with the E30.

I know we all got our start with M cars in various generations, but the e9x M3 will forever be my favorite. Cool video, nonetheless!

Agreed. E46 was my first M love (and way out of my price range at the time) but E9X showed me what an M car can do. That S65...

I spy with my little eye an e92, I'm drawn to it immediately. Hard to believe when it first came out I wasn't sure about it and now I think it's one of the all time greats!

Cool video. God's chariot, the GOAT, the homologation special is the best of the bunch. If you've never driven one you owe it to yourself.

Awesome video. The new platform continues to grow on me just as I assumed it would. I will continue to have a soft spot in my heart for the E46 and E9x as always. If only North America was getting a Manual G81 Touring.

E46 was always my favorite and still haven't had the opportunity to own one. The F80 does hit the spot though.

One of the most significant evolution of the M3 is that it is now called M2.

Exactly, just like Chris Harris said when he reviewed the M2.

Did anyone else notice that the G82 had to pass all the generations on the inside, but easily passed the G80 on the outside?!! Does that mean the G80 is the slowest race car here?

This video is awesome, the memories!!!!

It all started with a black e36 for me and now still own my white e92. I was toying with selling the e92 more than once but always resist to put it on the market. I think the new generation is crazy fast and getting great reviews. I made an emotional decision and went with the M2 CS over this M3, and am very intrigued about the evolution of this Platform in the coming years. It is great that the manual is an option again, and the choices with rear wheel and all wheel drive is a great opportunity for people to spec what they wish for......BMW M is providing lots of choices!!!!

Got to know BMW when I was a kid during when E46 M3 was just launching.
Now became an adult, bought E92 and E90, sold them all, now E46 .

The G8x cars are so smooth around bends and the S58 sounds so good. Could you imagine STG1 on these beasts? Opinions on looks aside, they really could be the ultimate driving machine.
