Hello,I’m new to the forums and finding a great amount of information on here. I am trying to diagnose if I have a problem with my 2022 m3 x drive. When I turn left or right from a full stop, it feels like the cars acceleration is not smooth. It doesn’t seem to be the engine as the issue only occurs when turning out from a stop sign for instance onto a 35mph zone. This is most noticeable trying to turn out fast. It’s not a shaking or jerking but kind of like a shuddering feel. The car will accelerate through if I push on the gas but it almost feels as if there are teeth in a gear not catching correctly if that makes sense. Almost like the rough feeling when you try and make a u turn in a 4x4. I’m due for my break in service but just looking for any guidance if this is a problem.

I think I have the same issue....but I thought it was a traction issue.

You're feeling the diff binding, my RS4 had the same sensation under power in low speed turns.

At first, I thought that could be the issue too but it seems unlikely as the same situation arises whether it’s dry or wet and when the car/tires are cold vs warmed up. Also having the same problem despite turning off dsc and changing all the different ride settings..

You sure it isn't front wheel skip that I believe happens on all AWD cars. The outside tires take a wider turn then the inside tires which causes the tires to skip. I tend to notice more when it's cooler out and/or tires are cold.

I get this occasionally on tight turns with limited traction, like crosswalk paint or leaves. I felt the dame thing in my F80. I always assumed it was the diff.

Update: brought the issue by my SA during break in service and he says it’s the differential and totally normal/doesn’t damage the car. He stated it is a common complaint of the cars but I’m still a little hesitant when pushing on the gas on a turn. Although after the rear diff fluid was changed I feel the sensation less. Hopefully he is correct but if anyone knows differently…

I have felt the same thing. I have found that if I put the car into MDM (4wd sport) it completely goes away. And under hard acceleration from a T intersection I was blown away by how much wheel spin and rear end action i got. It didn't affect my get away but made it way more RWD feeling.

Just wanted to bring this issue back up. Recently changed winter wheel/tire set up to a square set up and I don’t get any of the rear diff stuff. Anyone else noticing this? Could this indicate possible tire defect or could it be because of the staggered set up the car comes with?

I notice the same thing on my 21 RWD, I assumed it was normal and the rest diff. I will say it's more noticeable when the car is cold. Never had it looked at.

Can only confirm I notice this too, only from dead stop slight acceleration to any side.

Welcome to a high lockup lsd. Even with computer control you will get some slight binding.

I drive with DSC off rather often and don't notice this at all pulling a tighter corner in 1st/2nd gear. I'll slide a little even with AWD (4WD Sport) but no binding feeling.

Differential binding is not uncommon in AWD/4WD vehicles. It's usually most noticeable at full steering lock in reverse at walking speeds. If you REALLY want that sensation, put your Wrangler in 4H and crank the wheel.

The G05 X5s had a service bulletin opened last year for mild diff binding, for which the solution was changing differential fluid.

If you read some of the replies here, it's quite common. xDrive cars are still RWD most of the time, and full lock left/right from a complete stop is probably experiencing the Ackerman effect as well. I don't think it's an issue.

Yea I get that, However I never had that situation on my X3M. The driveline is similar if not exactly the same.

I've felt it from day one. I kept meaning to come on here and ask!

I typically drive AWD mode. I figured it was the diff as the inside rear wheel is the one doing it. Car is 100% otherwise. Ackerman effect isn't it because it is the rear wheel that you feel the diff.

I haven't tried to check for it on RWD only or sport 4WD, but I think it remains there.
The car is a friggin beast if you accelerate aggressively/floor it anytime, turning or not when DSC is off.

I wouldn't worry about it.

I tried it in RWD only and it's not there. Only present in 4WD or 4WD sport.

I'll have to check it out in RWD mode only. RWD with TC off is a bit dangerous, geez, the M3 got power!

Not sure if it's something similar, but i'd get it in my GT4. Porsche Delivery Experience explained to me that this was largley due to how the suspension was setup and sharp turns at slow speeds would essentially drag the front wheels due to the camber and suspension. I dont remember exactly why off the top of my head but it made sense to me and i only ever experienced it when pulling out of my garage.

I experience the same with my M4 and i assumed it was something similar.
