M4 Running Hot?

I was wondering if this is normal for it to be above the center line?

As long as it was after a good drive that’s perfect. You want your oil to heat up to 220-230F to boil off any moisture.

OP, remember that’s oil temp and not coolant temp. You may be used to seeing centerline static on other cars for coolant temp. Don’t let that throw you off.

Below 212F the oil doesn't flow through the oil cooler
Between 212F and 237F half of the oil flows through the oil cooler
Above 237F all of the oil flows through the oil cooler
Unless you're at the 280F red marker you're fine.

I went for a drive to check what my car does. On the highway in Efficient D1 mode my oil and water temps stay dead in the middle with no slivers above the middle mark. When I kicked into Sport+ and drove for 3min in D2 at highway cruise I did get 1-2 slivers of white showing above the middle mark on my oil temp. Only when I shifted into S3 and kept the RPMs at 3K for 2min did I get the third sliver to show on the oil temp, and the first sliver showed above middle on water temp.

That all seems fine to me.

Totally normal. I just beat the heck out of M2's, M4's and M5's at the BMW Performance Center in Thermal CA. After three sessions in a row on all cars it read the same temp as you are showing and that was with a lot of use. You are good. These things cool the oil beautifully!

There was a few times I drove the M5 at the performance center that the engines were so hot and the air condition got cut off. Unless your car reach that situation, I won't worry about it.

Perfectly normal. When i did my M performance day the M5s were overheating by the end of the day but G80’s good as gold. And this was summer in the UK so not particularly warm 😀
