Lunch time spent with the car today. Updated JB4 Firmware and XHP version today. Also started to capture some clips of the new exhaust. If I can convince my daughter to stand on the side of the road, I'll gather multiple passes to put together a full review to share here in the near future.

Well. Early in my time with this car, I tried to turn ASD off but that was when the feature didn't work in Bimmercode. I got used to the ASD, though never stopped thinking it sounded odd.

I finally actually turned it off yesterday (ID7, deactivated the ASD Activation Code) and I'm struggling to find the right word for my reaction to how quiet the car is while driving with the windows up. It's not a good reaction. I don't know that I want to turn ASD back on, so I may be being pushed into finally doing some mods. I'll go for a longer drive today after work to see if its any better when the car is being pushed a bit.

I'm thinking of pulling the charcoal filters from the intake first. And then maybe a midpipe to get rid of the resonators. I don't really want to spend a ton as I need to buy the car out next March.

Sigh.

For me, it didn't bother me much until I installed my aftermarket sub. ASD off is a must if doing so. I get what you are saying if everything is relatively stock and no audio upgrades.

I’ve turned ASD off and on probably 20 times now just experimenting and I also think I prefer it on. This is even with downpipes and midpipe installed, of course the volume is louder as compared to stock but it still sounds very dead in the car without it.

Sigh.
The additional zero cost option you can do is wiring the exhaust valves full open full time. Surprisingly effective even on a stock car. Pair that with a used aftermarket midpipe, and you won't be out of pocket much coin, and you'll be far happier with the sound.

I felt the same way when I first turned off ASD. I thought it was a bit difficult to hear the shift points, especially with music on. But I learned to live with it and decided to keep ASD turned off. It’s cool to hear the actual tone of the exhaust and definitely audible when you’re on it. Also the stereo system sounds much better with ASD off, which I enjoy.

I removed the charcoal filters and while it didn’t make much of a sound difference, it’s nice not having that second stage of restriction. I was thinking about getting a midpipe as well but I might get a valve controller first.

I went out on a pointless drive yesterday (far away store instead of the same store a mile from the house) and I'm still in a state of shock at how much of the sound was fake. I knew a lot of it was as this isn't my first ASD rodeo, but it really was 95% or more of the audible sound from the car.

The stereo does sound much better, as expected since the speakers aren't basically playing two tracks at once any more. The HK needs all the help it can get, of course.

I don't know if I'm turning it back on. I don't have an installer close by that could attack a midpipe quickly. There probably IS an installer nearby, but I haven't looked for anyone.

How bad is it realigning the bumper? I have a lift at home, and am about to do this myself, just worried I won’t be able to get panel gaps back to where they have them from the factory.

I spent some time getting it perfect after I took the photo, it’s not difficult at all though just a little trial and error if you’re doing it by yourself because you’ll need to keep going back inside the car to pop the hood. The only adjustment is forward and back at the top of the bumper to set the alignment with the hood.

Washed it! These wheels are a beating. Takes almost as long to wash them as it does the car. Ceramic helps a ton though.
