Brake bleed update?
Has anyone figured out how to bleed at home?
I have a pneumatic bleeder from the caliper, pressure bleeder from the top or maybe a time consuming gravity bleed? |

I’ve been doing a lot of research on this through the F90 forum, as they have the same brake by wire and calipers. The consensus over there was a pressure bleeder and ista if you’d like to cycle ABS and get a full system flush.

Are you sure F80 had brake by wire? I can understand using ISTA to flush the fluid that is in the ABS unit but I thought those could be pressure bled the old way? With G80 you need ISTA to actuate the electronic master cylinder. I had the dealer do it last season. Likely do the same again in March.

And I thought the same as you.. assumed some type of actuation would be needed on the master cylinder, but I guess not? |

Based on what I’ve read on this forum from others who did it you do have to use ISTA to actuate it else the system throws codes. Haven’t looked into getting ista or if another software can do the actuation. My usage is that I flush breaks once a season so seems easier to have dealer do it.

I thought I remember someone recommending a specific brand on one of the FB forums and uses it regularly for brake bleeds on our car. Forget the brand but I remember it was on amazon.

I’m slamming my head against the wall trying to think of ways this could be done and the actual plumbing from the MC down. I would assume a pressure bleeder could work, as it’s not relying on the brake pedal like a standard bleed; and just the bleeder, no software assists.. and possibly battery disconnected. I’m seriously considering just going to town and figuring this out. If she dies, she dies. |

Seems like you would need an ICOM Next A and a subscription to BMW OSS
https://www.dealer-pc.com/independen...ct/icom-next-a https://www.dealer-pc.com/independent/oss Aside from the fact that the ICOMs are back ordered, the OSS subscription is $2500/year. Ok for a shop but less value for a home enthusiast. You can sub for $30/day so that would be a decent option if the HW was available. cracked version: https://www.autonumen.com/goods-6983...RoCqyEQAvD_BwE Last edited by BMWRacer523; 01-08-2023 at 03:32 PM.. |

I meant to go it legit. I'm in the software business. I don't use bootleg sw. If the ICOM can be purchased for a decent price I do not mind paying the daily subscription when I needed to do something.

Pro-tip: Get your brake fluid replaced at the dealer at the start of track season, then just pressure bleed the calipers before a track day while making sure the reservoir is topped off.
You don't need to bleed the ABS if you fluid is fresh, which it would be if it was done yearly. Remember that brake fluid doesn't circulate so getting the fluid out of the caliper is the priority.

I’ve successfully used a Motive pressure bleeder on my E46 and E63 before with no issues. What makes our cars incompatible with these? Here’s a link to a similar tool on Amazon:
Motive Products, European Power Brake Bleeder, 0100, Hand Pump Pressure Tank with Adapter https://a.co/d/7cRzHeQ Mine came with compatible adapters. |

Any update on this? I got a track day in a few weeks. Trying to prep my car for the track. Not sure if should use my motive bleeder w/ the car off and flush it that way or just cough up $150-200 and have stealership do it.
Anyone had the balls to pressure bleed it using the motive bleeder? |
