The SPY "yellow car" is a test mule aka pre-production. These two cars in the photos will be destroyed by BMW shortly. Can't base anything other than the colors from these photos. BMW AG produces hundreds of pre-production test cars leading up to SOP. Pre-production starts around 2 years prior to market reveal.

And?

They build various preproduction cars to individual market specifications. I like the version without the fender extensions.

There were camo mules that had them and camo mules that didn't.

My expectation is we will not see them in the US market because our regulations do not require them.

Different markets have different individual colors. From the past, frozen colors even if offered as a P1 option in the order guide is $5,000 for the US market.

Contact you CA/SM and start the paperwork with BMW NA to get frozen orange approved. Priority 1 colors delay the build.

Edit: going through the 2021 price guides the 8 series/M8 frozen colors are priced at $5,000, but M5 is $3,600. Go figure.

Good to know, thanks my friend. My lease on my CS is up in april. I am going to skip the frozen and do toronto red for the initial G80 (rather than wait months and months).

In 3 years I'll do a Fire Orange G80 as I initially intended on doing with my F80 (they killed production earlier than planned because of new emissions laws in Europe if I recall correctly).

these real-life pics look better than the overly contrasted press photo's, more of the 3D element of the shape/creases and the grill comes out.

Waiting to see someone photoshop a lowered one with spacers.

I like it and have had both Audi and Porsche cars in the past few years I'm not married to BMW by a long shot... they just happen to have the only new, manual performance sedan on market today.

Is it my favorite design in the world? No, but I like it better than if they went with the G20 3 series front instead. Honestly, the front looks pretty cool to me. It's the side of the car with these seemingly random, soft character lines that's my biggest exterior gripe; but that's inherited from the base car.

It is heavier, but the 2018 F80 loaded with Competition package was about 200lbs heavier than the first released F80 strippers with passive suspension. I am guessing the weight gain is probably ~ 100lbs from Final year F80 to First year G80. There was a lot of talk about this a month or so ago and lemetier could probably add to this conversation.

FWIW, when I see brake adjustment, drift recording, adaptive suspension, all the latest technology on offer, electric parking brake, traction adjustment 1-10, 21" wheels, additional cooling.... All is see is things that add a lot of extra weight to a vehicle. Active suspension alone is probably 50lbs when adding in all components from electrical routing, to controls, to actual suspension parts.

Honestly if I didn't know this was a BMW I would have guessed it was a Lexus. If you took the dividing line between the kidneys out this is a Lexus. I like the headlights and the wheels. That's it. The rest is terrible. Have owned lots of BMW's over the years, but this new design direction is just not working for me.

Why would anyone get this M car and end up not getting a special color. Yellow, red, or green is the way to go

Issue is these aren't the best "pop" yellow, red or green worthy for a M variant. SPY is muted, red is more an orange and IOMG is OK.

If BMW wanted to turn heads with the color palette, SPY should be a true metallic color color, as it's being priced as a metallic. IOMG hasn't been seen in real life, non press photoshop photographs. Java green would be ideal.

Maybe the 1st edition G80 model be painted with Aurora Diamant Green Metallic. That would be a show stopper.

Traditional M colors has been the blue hues. BMW should through us a bone and offer San Marino Blue or Laguna Seca Blue as a standard metallic color.

Weight is concerning to me as well. I was surprised to find out that the G20 M340i weighs close to 4000 lbs too. Didn’t notice the platform had gotten so heavy, I guess there’s only so much M can do about that

Until the San Luis Potosí factory is able to handle full BMW Individual Manufaktur, exterior paint, interior leather, and interior trim, production has to remain in Germany. BMW markets and prides itself on the BMW Individual Manufaktur program for the non X M models.

I think the real thing to think about with weight is the ROI so to speak... is the added weight overly net positive to the cars performance.
Too much commentary focuses on the weight number as an absolute. As if Heavier automatically means bad for performance.

Bigger brakes and chassis bracing for example add weight but also improve the ability for the car to move faster around a track, allow the vehicle to take advantage of wider tires with more grip, remain more stable, and manage higher horsepower and torque.

But things like the power trunk lid do nothing for performance

Also as insiders have noted the HEA cars represent the US market curb weight. With exec and parking packs

I believe if we strip the exec pack, and put them on the scale the things that do add the weight will either be things that make the cars faster or safer
