ZF 8 speed faster & more like DCT after update?

I test drove another M3 last week that had been updated (fully stock) - I couldn't notice that the shifts (up & down) were WAY faster than when I had driven before...

Which begs the question - does BMW change the shift-logic or speed during software updates?

This latest test drive was MUCH better & I think I may order it to replace my 911

I mentioned in another thread that I recently received a software update (07/2022.33) and that after that, my shifts felt noticeably more aggressive in 1st > 2nd and 2nd > 3rd. Not sure if they are faster though.

This is not surprising. Just because one car got an update does not mean they all do. If an update becomes available for your car, you will be notified.

I haven't gotten one update since getting my car last november.

But people here have been doing 1 or 2 updates since then.

If you wait around for BMW to let you know about an optional update you may be waiting till your next service appointment.

Definitely worth checking in with your service advisor and stopping by to get the latest update if you don't currently have it like KANdaddy specified there is another thread around with more details but there is definitely a new software update out that is available and has been for a bit.

Also heard that you can't just call a dealer and ask them to do the latest update for free. If you do not have another reason to be in, they may charge you labor to just do only an update as it is not a required service in and of itself. I was lucky as mine was added during my break in service.

Went for break in service a few days, 22 m3cx, no updates available 🤷*♂️. Still love the car regardless lol

You took yours in? Thought you only had 500 mi so far?

Here is a pic of the version I have. You can also see that the image of my car in the info screen more closely matches my car’s actual color now. It used to be silver. This also happened after the update.

Remote updates aren't made available for everybody all at the same time. It's done in batches normally and can take some time.

I have 07/21 on my car and it has been in service in May…
And we know clearly that there are at least two new versions out currently…(03/22 and 07/22)

So seems that we are back at their old strategy - only updating at dealer if you have some issues or brake-in service for newer cars.
At least it looks like that if you have ID7…probably no priority anymore as ID8 is out….

If you're really fussed about being up to date (for free), just book it in and tell them you're having screen issues…turning itself off randomly, being unresponsive etc, they'll update you without question.
