Finally Saw It In The Flesh! G80 M3 Black Sapphire Metallic

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
So my local dealer finally got there HEA car today. Black on black competition with 826 bi-color wheels. Carbon fiber trim.

First off this car isn't very photogenic as seeing it finally in person this car is extremely menacing in black and to me looks so much better in person. I even took a few pics of it and comparing live and pictures it's not even close. If you haven't seen the car live you need to.

The Grill is a non issue to me especially in black. Maybe other colors it will stick out like a sore thumb but to be honest the grill looked half the size as it appears in the pictures to me.

Interior wise this is where it really earns my money compared to the old F80 and to the other brands out there. Cadillac and Alfa Guilia come to mind. It is such a step up to me and really gives a premium feel and more luxury than sport compared to the last gen. The seats are extremely comfortable and have a lot more padding than previous F series. I didn't mind the F80 seats but these seem like a big upgrade. I also feel with the digital dash that I might save the money on the executive package as I am 6'2" and I can get the seat super low and my eye sight is really good on the display. I love HUD and the laser lights are cool but not sure it's worth all the other fluff in the package.

They did start it for me but it's still in the shipping mode so couldn't do much with it. It sounded okay and I'm eager to get more time with it. They said I can come back next week and drive it as long as it's warm enough out. Ironically the car came with Pirelli p zero tires? I thought they all came with the Pilot 4s's?

So overall I am stoked about this car and I'm all in now. No looking back lol. I already had one on order but still no allocation but I'm willing to wait now for sure. I didn't really like the black interior in pictures but it is better in person but I really think a brighter color would do wonders. I also love black cars but I just see this thing as the biggest pain in the you know what to keep clean and it does hide the body lines some and takes away from the look of the carbon fiber roof. Also it's a competition which is tempting since I could get this car now but I really want a manual. Have to see what a test drive does for me.

Cheers!

I agree. I just saw a black M3 and a White M4 in person today for the first time and the grill does not photograph well, as a number of people have commented.

OK, I know we've all seen it and it's not quite worthless because good to hear your impressions, especially of the interior, but.......

When I talked to the rep in the secret back room at M Track days pre-launch and I had the reaction of "Well, I guess it's not that bad in person" both of them said they'd be rich if they had a dollar for everyone they'd seen with that reaction.

There are some on the forum that still don't like it, but that's fine, not everyone will do.
But most like it way more once seen in real...

For me it was the same, did not hate it, but from the first pics I was not sure about getting one or not...after then seeing one, I ordered one

I placed my order yesterday for a BSM G80 comp and I'm still questioning the color and wheels (826 bi right now). I guarantee I change colors 5x and end up back where I started. You laid out all the same reasons why I don't really want black, pain to clean, hides lines, but I will likely stick with a dark color so my other options are Tanz, Dravit or maybe Skyscraper. I went with Silverstone interior because it just looks like a tomb in there with black everywhere.

This video now makes me think that much black needs brighter 825 bi wheels...

The M3 in the video does look fantastic. Really hard to say without seeing the 826M bi next to it. The 825M are not as aggressive looking but BSM is bringing plenty of it to balance the more luxo look of the 825Ms.

I saw a Brooklyn grey in person today and it is so much more menacing in person. Loved it and the color was awesome also. I initially talked myself out of one but after seeing it, I want one. I am all over the place and can't wait until I am ready to purchase.

Saw this today in person at dealer in ATL. Wow, I was impressed. Thought it would have more of a primer look which I'm not a fan of, but this doesn't. Just an awesome light gray metallic color.[IMG][/IMG]

Saw two on Friday and another two this morning. The yellow, green and offwhite/grey.

Absolutely love the green. The green had the orange interior. GF is buying that for sure. I liked the yellow a lot as well, as a track car that color would be perfect.

I think they look immensely aggressive in person. I'm so happy new M cars are out. Each dealer I went to had a 6MT car, beautiful things.

The 'snout' just works with a performance car like the M3/4. The hips and fenders are so massive. Looking at it, I think the front can fit a 10.5" wheel no problem, rear probably a 11"

I almost bought into the BS negative comments on the forum and other social media and thought this may hurt the value. After seeing it in person, it is really sharp.

In fact that video you posted combined with the Zurich gas station one have changed my build. I’m now leaning BSM instead of TB2.

BSM G82 with red brake calipers, 826M bi-color or maybe 825M. Either full black interior or Fiona red. Need to see Fiona red IRL or real car pictures so it doesn’t give 50’s diner vibes...

Heck, it makes me think maybe I should have ordered the 826 Bi-color's. Such tough choices. They both look good for different reasons. It's too bad the only way to see them was to try and get some ideas from internet pics.

My dealer told me Wednesday of this week they will have one that I can see. Pretty sure someone already bought it but I'm just itching to see one in person before I pull the trigger.

I agree with OP about the grille. It looks much smaller in person and it works. Saw IOMG today and it was stunning.

Most people like it when they see it in person. First thing I will do is lowering it and putting spacers. A nice full width front lip will also look good.

Yep. Brought wife and kids who are not car or bmw enthusiasts - saw all the grill iterations on 5 different 4 series including m4. Different color cars, different color grills.
Unanimous opinion of all - they are all ugly. Some 4 series actually worse in person vs pictures
Black skirts and accents on m4 are weird too and it is no way to get it body colored accept for black car

It will be tough to get excited about that front. The only way to live with it is black color car that hides it
And if one puts usa plate on it - it will make it even worse
