Rattles In my G80

Hey guys! picked up my g80 about a month ago, I am about to go in for my break in service and was wondering your opinions on what rattles are "acceptable" before needing to complain about it

My car has been lowered on the M performance HAS as a port install option so not sure if that roughens the ride more

Anyway, when I drive randomly on extremely rough roads I here some slight rattling from the driver air vent on the dash, its very light, doesn't happen all the time except maybe at nights for some reason

And I also hear a rattle from the rear passenger side, mostly when going over bumps or uneven roads, and some vibration rattles when driving over those reflective bumps on the freeway

I know I am probably being picky for no reason, but how much rattle is expectable on a car like this one?

I had an ss 1LE Camaro before this that had some creeks here and there but no rattles like I here in this one

what y'all think? thanks for any info

Your driver-side vent rattle is almost certainly the same one I was experiencing which is actually behind the left side of the screen. Either it's hitting something or the foam tape they apply behind it wasn't adhered or placed properly. The dealer fixed it by removing the screen and reapplying it for me.

No idea on your other rattles though, but I would try and take videos to demonstrate it so you can show the dealer.

Just be careful having the dealer look at it, unless it’s very obtrusive.

Once they start taking apart interior panels, vents, trim, etc . It opens up a whole new can of worms

95% of the time I’m blasting music max volume. Problem solved

The rattle issue has been discussed on this forum before. I’ve learned to live with rattles on my M3 by turning up the stereo. I’ve also installed a valve controller and drive in full open mode which helps drown out the rattles. It’s pathetic but that’s what I do. This is only our second Bimmer and I have to say, I’m not very impressed with BMW. The M3CX is a fun sport sedan as we all know but I’m afraid that this will most likely be our last Bimmer. I’ve owned too many cars to mention and never have I experienced a car with such annoyances as my M3CX.
As mentioned above, I do not recommend taking it into the dealer for a cure. As soon as they start taking off panels, you are asking for more trouble. Rant over.

I totally empathise with the OP on this! Although I don’t have a G80 (yet), my G30 530d was blissfully quiet and rattle free. I ended up having to have a window replaced and now have a small intermittent rattle from passenger door which drives me insane!!

My G80 arrives in March, are they known to have a lot of rattles??

The GXX platform in general is not known to have a lot of rattles. They really improved build quality for this generation of 3 Series. That being said, the firmer the ride (i.e. M3/4) the more creaks and rattles will show up.

The only rattle I have in the whole car is from the stupid map light. I took it in to the dealer once and they put foam tape around it but its probably even worse now. Oh well.

My ‘24 M3CX has been excellent in terms of low/minimal interior rattles/noises. If the road texture is a bit gnarly, I might get a few quiet buzzes. However it is Leagues better than the ‘18 RS5 I had previously.

In terms of rattles, there's one intermittent one I hear randomly in the back passenger door area. Haven't been able to pinpoint yet since it happens once every few weeks over rough pavement.

Over larger bumps, the storage compartment on the driver's side and the glove box sometimes make noise which I plan to place some Tessa tape in a few spots to address.

My car was perfectly fine..er...on delivery. The combination of my exhaust and lowering has unearthed some not insignificant rattles in the front passenger area I just can't track down.

There are no acceptable rattles, baby. Get some felt tape, go in there, and kick its ass

I get rattles from headligner light, also have something rolling around under my seat that I cannot pinpoint, did not ask a dealer about it.

Break sqeel is the worst in my opinion. To the point that I might not keep the car as long as i had originally intended.

Don’t notice any rattles in my G81, and ride didn’t noticeably change when I installed the MPHAS and 1000M wheel set.

Only occasional annoyance is brake squeal.

I have a rattle in the driver seatbelt adjustment area. Can out hand on it, and it stops. I don’t know if I want to risk it getting worse. And valve controller causes a slight low rattle, but cost to be more loud I guess.

You know, I had noticed something similar on mine during the first 1,000 miles or so -- with occasional buzzing cropping up on the passenger side. My son and I were able to pinpoint it to an ASD issue (apparently), because the buzzing/vibration actually was emanating from the speaker located near the bottom left of the front passenger window. (Obviously the intensity varied depending on throttle/load.) Basically speaker rattle; it went away on its own.

Separately, FWIW, I've had zero other rattles/issues (now 3.5 months and nearly 4k miles in) ... other than one that was of my own making and easily can be addressed -- and therefore doesn't count. (I didn't re-fasten or glue the top of the boot to the new shift knob I put in, so it buzzes pretty loudly when coming in contact with the shifter's vibrations from time to time. I'll fix it once I make a final decision which shift knob to be using....)

Got the car a week ago, I have the exactly the same. More pronounced since I lowered the front and put on larger wheels….

Had a buzzing noise in the back.... it's the rear deck lid where it meets the rear glass. I haven't gone back to the dealership yet but I want something a little more permanent BUT I got some foam tape and shoved it between the deck lid and glass.

hmm yeah it does sound like its coming from directly behind the screen but pushing the corners doesn't make the buzzing go away

i was thinking it could be the rear deck lid, i will have to see if its something i could mess with before ggoing to the dealer but i think the sound sounds like its coming from under that decklid piece

sorry if there was a thread on this, I have an appointment Tuesday for break in and to check the rattles, this saturday my brother and I will go through some bumpy roads here in glendale to see if we can fix them/pinpoint them outselves, I would definitely prefer to fix the rattles myself without stuff being taken apart
