On the BMW Individual Configurator, when you select "Special Paint",it displays:

Leave the gun. Take the Canoli.

I'm not sure what that means. I have a custom color and my car definitely tries to not let me switch lanes if I don't use the turn signal

I’ve noticed that. I suspect that is intended for dealers, or is some sort of web application logic error. Either way, it makes no sense for Individual paint to restrict anything functional like that.

Lane keep - prevents wandering out of your lane Lane change is a feature that allows the driver to use a touch of the turn signal for the car to evaluate available space and make the lane change autonomously. I suspect that they have only tested the sensors with certain paint colors. There have been instances where certain paints confuse the system due to reflections.I think there was a factory color for the x5 that precluded some of the driver assist systems. |

That’s cool. I was wrong then. I wasn’t even considering paint selection as a potential driver assist system risk.

So how do I find out which colors have it certified? Will the dealer know at the time of ordering? I would hate to pick a color say Santorini or Java Green then realized my lane change is disabled months later.

Or perhaps I'm reading into that designation too much and the star simply means a non-standard color and comes with the normal individual wait times for builds. Not 100% sure since the site doesn't actually make note of what the star truly means.

@Mperor All in all it is not a core driver assist feature so personally I would not let this omission dictate color choice |

Individual paint removes the feature. I do not believe that applies to paints like Tanzanite, Oxide, or Dravit.

one way to look at it is... unless specifically noted for that particular paint, the paints in the order guide are compatible, including the "individual lite" paints like tanzanite (which are really just branded individual to justify the 2k cost). Anything outside of those order guide paints which constitute the full individual program ($4500 and up) are going to have the limitation.
