Same general area as OP. How hard can it be to figure which dealer is the source?

I don’t like to piss on government workers since they are often unsung heroes that shovel shit for thankless jobs, but this smells like DMV. I only say this because it’s unlikely that there’s a multi BMW dealership theft ring. A single dealership would get too hot too quickly, but a shady DMV employee could easily issue paperwork and you could hit up random dealerships for keys. Or there’s something BMW going on in another less regulated country.

I think it’s time for some legal action against BMW NA for failing to ensure that keys are issued to the owners without restrict verification. Audi way back in 2014 requested me to have the car (RS5) at the time of ordering a key and receiving it although the dealer knew me very well. They even had the warranty cover it.

Can anyone breakdown anti-theft devices in the US (brands, types, any info on them) that folks use here and what is popular? Seems intriguing to get one installed...

Either way it’s impossible there’s a loophole like this through something that’s supposedly sophisticated and “high end” like a bmw dealership with the technology we have today with computers and how they hold themselves to a higher standard to other dealers. So that just means there’s someone on the inside as I been saying all along. Some low life making 18 bucks an hour. You think he cares about that job? When he can make a couple grand for each car he gets paperwork for for a new key fob?

This whole key thing at Open Road reminds me of “Gone in Sixty Seconds” where the kid knew someone at the dealer to copy the Benz keys…
Regardless, we’re too far advanced where this shouldn’t be happening… BMW NA needs to do something about this

The only language they understand is legal. Start with sending a certified letter explaining the situation holding them responsible for lack of security measures of coping keys. They will respond.

Also what are you suing them for in court exactly? And you think you will win damages that will be worth more than hiring a lawyer?
