Don’t worry. It’s like riding a bike. The bmw manual transmission is easy to use - and with all the power at your disposal very difficult to stall. Brake hold keeps you from rolling back on hills. Very positive engagement of the stick in each gear and a smooth engagement point with the clutch. The clutch isn’t too heavy or too light.

Glad to read so many good comments on the manual transmission!
When I test drove an M3 and M4 manual, the clutch felt drastically lighter then previous cars I’ve had. Is this you alls experience as well? I currently own a manual 2019 370Z Also….for those of you with the parking assistance package, does it actually work with the manual? I haven’t seen many good posts on this. |

MT on 6 cylinder engine with sensitive throttle is tricker to roll smooth in 1st & 2nd gears likely due to high torque. You always have to temper the launch a bit.
4 cylinder engines NA or Turbo are easier to roll with MT Just my experience |

Hi everyone,
I also have a brand new 24 manual G80. I agree the clutch engagement takes some getting used to. I am from the Subaru world and own one manual Subaru. One thing I noticed is my clutch pedal is slightly higher than the brake pedal and it's a different feel than what I'm used to. It took some getting used to (especially when switching between manual cars) but I'm wondering if this is the same with everyone else's cars? I'm approaching my break-in service and wanted to get a consensus on that in case it's worth mentioning. Thanks! |

1) Are you loving it
Absolutely! 2) Is the shifter feel mechanical enough for you Yes 3) What has your clutch engagement been in sport vs efficiency modes BMS clutch stop and CDV removal fixes this. 4) Time it takes for Transmission to warm up Depending on the weather, within a few miles 5) Points you like to share Had a ‘24 Dravit Gray M4C. It was an amazing car but it was not nearly as fun as the Manual. |

I had an i4M50 as a loaner.
586 Foot Pounds of instant POWER! It actually made me laugh how powerful it felt. When you’re just driving normal it’s an absolute SNOOZE fest. It becomes any pedestrian vehicle. M3 6 Speed manual For the win! |

Takes some time to get it right, and with about 2850 miles on mine, I’m still getting used to it. I don’t use the auto rev-matching feature, but, at times it’s nice to know it’s there if I’m feeling super lazy. Sometimes (rarely), I drive in comfort mode, and always forget rev-matching is enabled. Then I switch back to m1/sport mode and all is well with the world again! |

The 6MT gearbox is not bad on the G80. clutch action is light and predictable (except for the 1-2 shift!) But the throws are just a tad long if you're coming from any other 6MT car. I still find it very engaging and fun to drive.

thats exactly how it should be! i test drove a cayman gts 4.0 with a manual and what a terrible spaced gear box. 2nd gear and you're over 70mph in a naturally aspirated engine that begs to be revved (and not to mention feels underpowered bellow 4k rpm). i want the first 4 gears tightly spaced and then long 5-6 for highway driving. if anything i think 6th gear should be longer. i'm around 3k rpm at 80mph which is a bit too high IMO

Good for passing power, but BMW has refused to change this over, well, any generation of M3. My ‘98 corvette was running closer to 2000 rpm at 80, so getting high 20s MPG hwy on a NA v8. That gear ratio was 0.5:1!

agreed. its nice to have that power on tap immediately when on the highway. but honestly if i was doing a lot of highway driving this would not be the car i would drive.

Love my 23 G8p 6MT - did 3 things to improving shift feels - cdv delete. Was an improvement not mind blowing. Rogue rear shift bushing, tightened it up a bit but not mind blowing. M perf knob from prior gen - that change made the prior two feel that much better - just way more feel since it’s a lighter knob. I would hope many manual owners would consider these 3 small changes - it really improved the shifting feel and experience for me.
Love the car - did a few other mods like BMS drop ins / awe switch path/ sst valve controller |
