G8x CCB owners, do your brakes squeal much?
I have a '23 G80 on order and have been going back and forth between steels and CCBs. I haven't seen much around CCBs squealing on the G8x (vs. the F8x). And as many have reported, the squealing on steel brakes is incredibly annoying for those of us with OCD. My '19 M5C has the same "issue" and I'd rather avoid this again, if possible.
Question to the G8x CCB owners out there... How has your experience been with brake squeal? I don't mind a bit of noise under limited circumstances (e.g., rain), but the constant squeal from the steels is worth the $8-9k upgrade alone, IMO. Driving around like a racer boi and slamming on my brakes every so often "to resolve the issue" is not something I consider a reasonable "fix."

Mine arrived in June 2021, and now I have 39,000 miles or so, and my CCBs have only squealed like 5 to 6 times, and only briefly each time, for like 30 minutes or less. Mine are almost dead silent. When they did squeal in the past, it was after a long bout of aggressive driving on back roads or on the highway.
Case in point, I drove for 4 straight days in Tennessee at the Tail of the Dragon with the Porsche folks, aggressively, 6 hours/day....and I remember them squealing like twice, at the end of the day, and once the brakes cooled, they didn't squeal any more that day. For me, squealing has been a definitive non-issue for my CCBs.

Only a couple thousand miles on mine but zero issues. Had them out in rain and snow as well as didn’t have any panic peddle that some people talk about. No second thoughts on speccing them so far. Looks great, feels great, sounds not at all, and hopefully lasts basically forever.

TVonthe80 Fantastic! From scouring the forum, appears that G8x CCB owners are far more pleased vs. F8x CCB

The CCBs, "can be" as loud or even louder than the steel brakes. They had a class action lawsuit, a few years ago, pertaining to CCB brake noise. https://www.carcomplaints.com/news/2...-lawsuit.shtml
In the past 10,580 miles, I can recall my brakes making noise, or excessive noise, 2-3 times, at most. I rarely get anything out of mine. I tend to drive rather aggressively. Most people that have issues, more so, at slower speeds. The best way to keep them quiet, is to make sure you pressure wash, and decontaminate them, during every wash. Hitting them with flowing hose water, isn't going to cut it. You need to pressure wash the buildup, out of the rotor holes, and out from under the calipers. The next thing comes the price. There are lots of advantages to spending the money. The weakest argument being brake dust. Although, it was high on my list of reasons. The second would be lack of wear. The rotors and pads may outlast the car, if you don't hit the track heavily. I know of 6 people, now, that have had to replace their rear brakes, on their steel brake setup. 3 of them required rotors, the other 3 just pads. There are guys in the track thread, that track these cars heavily, and a brand new set of rear pads, lasts one track day. If you're replacing rear pads and rotors, every 15k miles, in 60k miles, you've already paid for the cost of the CCBs. Not to mention, you've also probably been through a set of front pads, maybe even two. Third, you can skip over the threads titled, "Are their any pads that dust less?" These don't dust, at all. The wheels still get dirty, which you have to clean, but I find that the wheels still have that "just washed" shine, after 200-300 miles. Fourth, no brake fade, and no rotor warping. Gold Calipers, They fill out the wheels better, and look good doing it.

Thanks, Limegrntaln - appreciate your thorough response! I'm totally with you - low brake dust (esp on these wheels) and the cool factor (gold + rotor size) isn't lost on me, either. I'm in a position (unlike when I ordered my F80) that the cost of CCBs is inconsequential, but I wanted to test the waters. I'm stoked to hear that your CCBs have been a positive experience and will be calling my dealer tomorrow to change my order, lol.

My dealer said I'm a couple months out, so no worries there. Problem is, I keep checking more boxes the more I wait!

Let’s also not forget the price to add the brakes later.

Hi, I’m driving in Canada and the noise problem is terrible during winter when the breaks are cold and/or maybe with snow dirt.
The car is fun to drive during summer but also during winter (great experience for M3 fans) with awd. It’s just sad to have that noise problem. They should pre heat the breaks during winter like seats. |

Ended up making the switch to CCBs this morning. My dealer advised against them, but I gave them a free "I told you so" if I don't end up liking them. 🙂

I only have 600 miles on my car, but I haven't had any issues with noise so far.
The PCCBs on my Macan are also pretty quiet except when it's cold out are they are half-way heated up. At our old school, I would drop my kids off in the am which was about 1mi from our house. It seems I would hit it perfectly every day as I would hear noise right as I arrived and crept through the drop off line. Then zero noise as I drove around for the rest of the day. This is better than the regular steel brakes on the Macan (and the ones I had on my F80 and E90) which would squeal randomly for no reason at all - forcing you to look like a madman slamming on your brakes at a red light every so often. Porsche also has a great video about brake noise. Their premise is: you have a racecar, so stop whining.

Please .... don't judge me . It follow my previous comment. During winter, I wash my vehicle at the car wash only. This week, I realized that the perforations, even after washing, of my brakes were dirty and filled with iron dust. I waited for a nice day (today!) to wash my brakes with a jet of water (discs and between pads and discs) without removing the wheels. I used my vehicle to brake 5 times and dry my brakes and everything was back to normal (NO MORE NOISES). I have never felt so stupid!!! Cleaning my brakes with water solved my problem (OMG). My dealer never recommended this to me and instead offered to have the brakes serviced (only after 7000 KM = 4350 Miles). Lesson learn: Clean your brakes !!!

m steel brakes have squeaked badly since the day i picked mine up, not bothering me too much il ask them to address it at the 1200 mile service,
do CCB cars also have counter weight on the pads to help with harmonics? |

My CCB’s have been squealing at random times since about 600 miles. And I get the loud freight train type squealing.
Would I do it again, oh hell yeah. |

The solution is to drive fast and brake like you see a small child in the road. Then repeat 2-3 times.
