curious where this ends up at. tbh tho the solution seems more complicated than just splitting up the grill. whole front design needs to be seriously revamped.

got to see the G8X in person and as funny as it sounds, I think it looks better with the full vertical grilles versus a painted piece to split it into half, reason being, the grills are literally designed to flow into the raised hood lines. I don't even like them really but breaking up the big grilles just makes the top half of the kidneys look like incomplete trapezoidal shapes that don't match up to any lines on the car, or it also reminds me of when someone tries to imitate a piggy face by pushing up on the tip of their nose

I think the biggest mistake was not making the grilles vertical, but rather just making them sit a bit too tall to where the top of the grille sits above the headlights. For reference, the Alfa has a vertical grill but the proportions are far better and therefore that car makes it work. Unfortunately I don't think you can fix the issue with just a grill addition. Props for trying though.

I think the only way to "fix" the grill design in any meaningful way would involve redesigning the hood and bumper together. The nostrils really start with the hood lines which extend into the bumper.

this.

I also happen to think the side profile is much, much worse than the front. There is nothing about the new M4 that looks like it came from BMW.

I dont see what's controversial about this. To you it either adds or subtracts from the look, no need to shoot the improvement attempt.

Props for trying I guess. Still doesn't seem much better. I don't like the zits on either side, are those sensors?

Looks very cheesy. The sensors look like nipples. Hard no for me. The stock grille looks better.

Tried a very rudimentary edit... don't think it can be saved tbh. Kudo's to IND for trying.

O E I'm out, but I'll be in for a set of front bumper painted reflector though.

I can't believe this thread made it to the front page of Bimmerpost. If you hate the grills THAT much get another car. The designers collectively spent thousands of hours making all the shapes and components work together as best possible and no aftermarket "fix" will ever look better. Adding a carbon lip, or a sportier hood, can be nice touches, but don't change the design language of practically the entire front end...it won't ever look right.

I'm sure a small minority will change the front, but BMW still wins.

I like the open look grill area of the GT3. Maybe IND can come up with something similar? That would make me want a G82.

IND you're doing a great job in trying different things to get the grill to look great. Painting the middle to be body-colored along with it being solid along with the lower part being black will go a long way to improve the design.

I think the coffin-style, horizontal lines at the top are still too in your face for you to cut it off, so it'll look somewhat strange to have a half-open shape that looks unfinished. Ideally, you'd want to have the vertical lines like current and previous BMWs, like this quick photoshop I threw together.
