hmmm

I am not an expert by any means when it comes to design/exhaust but for those who are, is there any benefit to having the exhaust set up like that? or is it purely aesthetics? Just trying to see if maybe this set up yields some sort of advantage

The space behind the rear creates a negative pressure, or a vacuum behind the car. This in turn becomes drag. By focusing the exhaust gas in the negative space, the high velocity air will reduce or eliminate the vacuum generated by the empty space. This is the same idea behind why the Zonda has the exhaust in back of the trunk.

I think this car, along with the entire new gen of M3/4, is very ugly. With that said, this happens every generation to every car. When the F8x's were being released all the E92 owners hated them. Same thing happens over on the P-car boards, every new generation is despised, well for the first few months anyway. I've watched as the same naysayers end up in the new gen, then love them. In about 6 months when these babies are on all the boards, mods are being released, and they are all the rage, everyone will love them. And sadly, the F8x will be old hat.

There is no real "last classic." Classics are made constantly. Every generation has a fan group that consider that model to be a "classic."

Imagine that the new upcoming G80 M3 launched today. There's going to be a 15 year old kid who will love it and will dream of owning one someday. Fast forward 10-15 years, that kid worked hard and has enough money to buy an M3 of his own. The G80 M3 he fell in love with 15 years earlier will be considered by them a "classic"

It's all relative, and a classic is made every single day 😃

I thought there must be a functional reason for the exhaust placement and this very well could be it. The other thing I noticed though is the "truck nuts" muffler seems to be hanging down into the air that is flowing out from under the car. If aerodynamics is the reason for the placement of the exhaust, you would think they would tuck the car's nuts away.

If you mean the traditional purpose of M cars was to be understated "sleepers," well that went out the door with the F8x. The F8x was a huge success for BMW.

I am not, by my nature, a low-key person (i'm getting a G80 in Fire Orange).

I am incredibly happy they have significantly differentiated the G80 from the G20, especially after they cheapened the M brand by putting the M logo on the M340.

I could see it shave off some grams, as (marginally) less piping is needed. However, I think it's mostly just a way for BMW to earn a few more euros from people who want to differ from the rest.

I've always wanted the M4 to be more aggressive aesthetically. I don't mind the cluster of the quad exhaust it a nice aggressive change, not classic M but still cool. And if it helps with performance and arrow dynamics so be it.

It's the whole front bumper that is poorly designed, not to mention the obnoxious butterfly grill. And for the record BMW Designers I cannot stand fake air-intakes or exhaust ports. You really got a wonder who is okaying these exterior designs.

When the F80/F82 was revealed, in terms of exterior design I thought it was beautiful. Same goes for the previous 2 generations. This new G80 is just ugly. With that being said i'll be first in line to put a deposit down. 😂 jk

I guess it's those big honking holes in the front grill that creates the negative pressure on my eyeballs...making me look away. LOL! Same fool must have been allowed to design the ass too...
