New G80 vs used 2020 M8
I realize that these are two VERY different cars but I am considering purchasing a used 2020 M8 with 16k miles. Still has warranty for 22 months or 34k miles. Great condition
I have a dealer that has an M3 held for me in transit... Color combo better on m3 but I still dig the used cars specs. The added interior luxury and V8 sounds are whats making this a hard decision for me. Will be daily driver Thoughts? |

I find my M4 coupe a more exciting drive than my former F90 M5 Competition. I couldn’t get any satisfaction from driving hard the M5, whereas totally opposite with the M4.

I drove a 2021 M5 Comp for a day last weekend. Couldn’t wait to get back in my M4. Thing felt like a boat (albeit a fast one) going down the freeway. The G8x is such a nimble car in comparison. Way more fun to drive.

I echo the same. While M8 is sooo sexy and fast, the M3/M4 feels so much more fun!

I have both (have had two G80s and 2 M8;s) currently this post has some salient opines...
including my own personal one... https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1921524 I love both cars for what they are and they definitely compliment each other based on one's driving desires.

I'll chime in having driven an F90 M5c back to back with an M2c. Yes the comments about the M5 being a fast boat are totally accurate. Different worlds of enjoyment and feel compared to the M2c.
Barely mentioned here, BUT make sure you are realistic with your driving needs as someone said. If you prefer comfort with some sportiness the M8 would be better I say. There's always a debate on if any generation M3 is "comfortable" to drive/daily. You really need to test drive both and make the call for yourself. One thing I've learned being on this forum over a decade is the tolerance level for a lot of people are far and wide different than my own and can't rely on what people on the internet say. My two cents! |

I’ve learned that a test drive doesn’t even do it for me, gotta own the car to really appreciate if you can manage with it daily. I bought a Boxster over the G80 after test driving both and definitely am having some reservations now if the livability drawbacks are worth it lol.

Buy the M8 and send me the deets on the M3 so I can buy it. LOL.
In all seriousness, it's kinda chalk and cheese. What do you want? more luxury and refinement at the cost of involvement? Or are you willing to put up with less sound deadening, less fluff for a bit more nimbleness? That V8 is potent but heavy. Hard for us to make this call for you... |

M8 is a bit claustrophobic inside I found.. big windshield rake, thick pillars, high doors, big center console. G80 is a completely different feel when you're in it, especially with the buckets.

Ill go the opposite route and say get the M8. The luxury the V8 and the stance of the car is a league above the M3 IMO. Not sure how old you are or if you have any kids or not or if you have a wife and like to go out to nice dinners with your wife but the M8/5 is a higher level executive car as opposed to the M3 which is more nimble a little more fun and more of a casual younger mans car.
Thats not to say both arent great but Im 33 with one kid and I drive ALOT so I traded in my G80 comp with buckets for M5 comp fully loaded and it was the best decision I made. More room, more luxury, more comfort because I drive alot and I get in and out of my car alot. Looks and feels better taking my wife out to a nice dinner or going to business meetings which I have weekly. Its a different class in my opinion. If you are a bit younger and want more FUN the M3 is the EASY answer. If you are in between Id steer towards the better cruiser better engine more luxurious M8. Either way youll be happy. I chose the G80 first and then regretted it and kept thinking about the M5 comp and eventually bit the bullet. It was the better car for me. You need to decide what the better car for YOU is. Goodluck! |

I'm older than you, two kids, but I'm not driving nearly as much as I used to. It's all relative...my G80 will be replacing a 997 Turbo and I'm making that switch because my 997 is just too much for a daily, lol. So that's why there's never a "this is better". It's just "what's better for your use case, your likes / dislikes, your personal preferences"? |
