PPF in Denver

Starting to put together a tentative plan for my car when it arrives in the Spring, and have started reaching out a few shops.

I'm leaning towards doing a full wrap, mainly to minimize the maintenance required for the car.

I've gotten quotes that range from $6K-8K.

Has anyone had a full wrap done? What shops do you like/don't like?

I went back and forth between Denver Auto Shield and Colorado Custom Clearbras. My g80 is still on the boat, scheduled to arrive in Oxnard on Dec 17th.

I am getting
  • full xpel stealth PPF (regular PPF on gloss/carbon bits)
  • ceramic coating over ppf
  • 2 sets of wheels ceramic coated (826M and 963M)
  • brake calipers ceramic coated
  • 70% ceramic tint on rear and side

Denver Auto Shield: $8500
Colorado Custom Clearbra: $6500

Both seem to do excellent work. Similar timeframe and booking. Almost everything but price seemed equal. At this point I am going with Colorado Custom Clearbras. Going to schedule a tentative date when my car reaches port. I currently have no stop sales listed.

Thanks. Those are the same numbers I received from both places.

I have used Colorado Clearbra (in Arvada) in the past on my F80 (just rocker panel and rear quarter panel coverage as it was a leased car) and I thought they did excellent work.

Can't wait to see how your stealth wrap turns out!

I had full wrap XPEL Stealth and tint done at Denver Auto Shield. Very happy with the results. There’s pictures on the “Denver anyone?” thread.

I've used them for powder-coating in the past, but didn't realize they did PPF too.

I used Colorado Clear Bra for my F80 and my wife's MDX. Kirby (owner) is an enthusiast and definitely takes proud of his and his team's work.

I plan to take the G80 (if I ever get it) there.

I was looking into this PPF/Ceramic/Tint. I called a few places and found one that I'm really happy going to once I get my M3.

With that said, one of my calls made me laugh. I called a company and asked for a quote. They quoted me over the phone instead of sending an email. I was quoted 8k for full PPF, $750 for ceramic, and then $600 for the tint. Seemed a bit high to me, but that's why you call around, right?

Not that I feel entitled to it or anything, but having served in the military, I will generally ask on large purchases like this if they offer a military/veteran discount. When I asked, they proudly said, "Yes, we do!" I'm thinking well, that's awesome! I then asked how much of a discount it is. They answered, "$10". Again, I'm hoping this doesn't come across as not appreciated, as a discount is a discount...but when you might spend $9,350 for services and/or products and someone offers to knock off $10, it made me laugh.

For what it's worth, when I did my due diligence for PPF, it seemed like most of the "premium" shops in our area were quoting in the neighborhood of 8 grand for a full wrap of a G82.

I decided to go with New Image. It's clear to me from speaking with them, touring their shop, and speaking with their customers that they do excellent work. It's not cheap, but I think this is an area where you definitely get what you pay for.

Did they quote 8 as well?

I'm probably going with Kirby, since he did a nice job on my F80.

like i said, i went with https://www.coloradocustomclearbras.com/gallery.html

i got full stealth ppf, 2 sets of wheels full ceramic, brake calipers ceramic, 2 coats of ceramic on top of ppf.

bonuses tony did for me:
  • 2nd ceramic coat
  • double up the PPF on the rear fenders where the stock ppf is.. useful for track days, rubber from tires all over that section
  • PPF the back of my carbon buckets
  • PPF on M carbon fiber front splitter
.

overall the job and care of my car was incredible. i would 100% use them again. they had the best price by far, then add in all the extras and price was even better.

EDIT: forgot, i also did 50% ceramic tint on back and sides from them as well

This is who I was locked in with too. Spoke with Tony for quite a bit and was very impressed. My CA also highly recommends him as well.
Now, I just need a damn car for him to work with...lol.

Holy shit, no way I’d pay over 10% of the cost of my car for this.

I honestly don’t get it fellas, IMO this is just an epic waste of money on any car…

Absolutely, the ROI is terrible.

Personally, I just want the car to stay looking good while I own it, and make maintenance easier (especially for frozen paint).

I get that perspective, I really do.

I wonder if how long someone plans to keep the car comes into play when making that investment decision?

I have kept my last 2 cars for 10 years or more for each of them. If I keep this new vehicle for 10 years or more and want to protect it due to the additional money paid for it, does it change this perspective? For me, it does. For others, it's probably still too much regardless of how long you plan to keep the car.

I think if things were normal, M cars were plentiful, and depreciation was as it has been in the past, I might think more about it. However, new car shortages now mean used car shortages in 3-5 years...so dumping 6-8K into PPF on a car that depreciates maybe half as much as before doesn't seem as bad, all things considered.

And, at least for me, frozen paint is harder to repair...so if you do get scratches it's not just a quick buff out.

I've already checked most of the boxes on my build...so what's one more line item.

as a person who is mainly using the car for track, PPF just makes things easier. sure $6500, but money and cost is all relative to the individual. washing is easier. don't have to worry about bird poo, water marks, minor scratches, and most importantly rocks and pebbles at the track.

i also don't have the time to personally be washing my car once a week or even twice a week. i've washed my car once since delivery on dec 31st. and the PPF washed it once for me when i took it back down there 4 weeks after PPF was done for them to have a once over and make sure everything was perfect. that alone, for me would be worth $5000 easy. lol.

if you are price sensitive or just don't think its worth it, that's ok, but it doesn't mean its not to someone else. you can say the same thing about the car purchase itself.

I also completely understand this perspective -- I'd by lying if I said I wasn't a little uncomfortable with paying this kind of cash for a paint protection process that is going to be mostly unrecoverable in the value of the vehicle.

That said, I still think it's the right decision for me. First of all, my M4 is spec'd to over 110k and has an individual paint color. Repainting the vehicle to address some kind of scuff or serious chip would itself cost thousands of dollars. Second, I've wanted one of these cars since I was a little kid, so this is also a big moment for me and a vehicle I intend to keep forever. I am also extremely OCD about the quality of things I own, so the first (and inevitable) rock chip would absolutely break my heart.

Just as an FYI, I'm purchasing a rider for my insurance policy that will cover reapplying PPF and ceramic in the event of any damage to the vehicle. It's an additional $8 a month for $10,000 in coverage.

Want to be clear about one thing -- I think PPF'ing a car you intend to sell is fucking insane.

What color did you go with?

My '23 M4 is specced to $113K, so it sounds like we may have similar builds.

Good thinking on the insurance rider. Will need to look into that.
