IMPORTANT: BMW Performance Center Delivery UPDATE

So I just got this News from my Dealer that Performance Center Delivery will officially end September 1, 2023. (Partially)

So to Confirm this news I reached out to the Performance Center and they confirmed the news is true.

Only vehicles made in South Carolina will not be affected, this means you will be able to take deliveries there. All vehicles importing from Germany are affected. The reason they stop is high demand of request for Performance Center Deliveries.

Hopefully, in the near future it will open up.

Are you assuming or fact?

Since as confirmed by them, they dont have any future date for the program to begin.

I recall seeing some memo in one of the threads here just yesterday and someone stating the will restart the program. There are a half dozen threads now, so I am not sure where that particular statement is at this point.

This makes no sense to me. If they have "overwhelming demand" for PCD deliveries, why don't they just charge more?

BMW would make more money, and the customers that value the service the most would be willing to pay...

Sometimes capitalism can solve problems lol

They don't charge anything, do they?

In fact, don't they pay for a hotel room and food? Not sure on the hotel, but I know they provide food and track time.

I don't think they do (charge).

I'm basically asking, why not charge if it's so popular? I'm sure tons of people would cough up some $ for the service.

At least that way they could keep it alive.

This is like the 4th thread on this, and as chicagofan00 posted, it’s a temporary pause.

They almost certainly make more sales from this option being free than they would have people take advantage of it if it cost money.

If it costs money, no one would buy a BMW as a "perk" of being able to pick it up in SC (since it's not free), and if it costs money, people who are already buying a BMW most likely would not opt for it.

It being free means they attract people as a potential free perk of buying the car.

Technically, you are paying for it, you're still paying the destination and handling charge no matter what.

You're only paying for it if you opt *not* to do it. It's a free option, so if you do it, it's costing BMW time and money to accommodate you at the PC, give you a free night at the hotel, free transportation, etc.

You had to get your request in before 9/1 else you're waiting until they restart in January. And that's just for requests.

So people who can request in January will likely have builds around then being input, so deliveries will be March/April.

You get one night at the hotel, dinner, breakfast, and lunch included. Plus the factory tour. If you fly in, the hotel picks you up in an x5.

The delivery program is allotted 2 hours on the track in the morning and the rest of the time is for driving schools. You’re split into two groups so some might go do the factory tour and off road course first before the track part. Then you get lunch and get your vehicle delivery. You should be done no later than 3pm.

for anyone following, info from my salesman:

I just heard back from BMW this morning. They have been swamped with requests coming back from the holiday weekend. Based on the information they provided to me, they will not be able to make an exception for Performance Center Delivery. They have temporarily stopped their trucking route from the Port of Georgia going up to the performance center meaning that they would not even have a truck available to bring your vehicle to the Performance Center. I was told this is a part of their plan to ensure that they have available trucks for shipping cars from the Production Facility in SC to dealers around the country as they had an issue getting cars out last year.

What's this in reference to? I would be unsurprised with that response if you were looking to squeeze in a PCD request after 9/1, but everyone who requested before 9/1 should be good to go.

If you want to go out the night before your PCD day, they drop you off and pick you up in X5’s too

Hate to break the news, but as of January 1, 2024, no more provided “free” hotel, no more dinner and breakfast, and no morning ride to the performance center the day of delivery.

Website FAQ’s has been updated to “Plan to be at the Performance Center no later than 8 a.m. the day of your delivery” as “customers are responsible for the cost of their personal travel to and from South Carolina.”

Man, I feel bad for the hotel employees. They’ve been doing this for years and years.

They do an absolutely fantastic job, but it was nearly empty when I stayed.

This is of a piece but a lot bigger deal than a lot of the de-contenting that BMW has done over the years. Sad. The Ultimate Profit-Making Machine?
