I would love to do European Delivery if it's available in 3 years or so. Coming from the USA, hopefully COVID (or whatever travel restrictions for incoming tourists) are lifted by then

my goal for the M3 was to do Euro Delivery which, of course isn't an option. I hope it returns so I can for my next BMW because that's always been something I've wanted to do

Same here. It was always a goal of mine to take delivery of my very first M3 via euro delivery and now that option is gone.

I'm bummed but still grateful that I am now in a position to finally order an M3 to begin with!

I hope so. Their announcement did seem to make it sound like it was permanent but I can't help but think it was more of a moratorium rather than permanent. I mean they invested so much into the facilities and experience there...

they probably don't want people to hold out for it vs buying now

It has been almost a year BMW axed the beloved ED program and someone posted on the bimmerfest forum that there are extended first hand rumblings from the high up in the BMWNA NJ hierarchy about a revised ED program. Anyone here heard of?

Why not just find a way to make money with ED? Really, what's the hard cost to them?

They could charge $1,500 if you wanted to do it. They really can't find a way to make it profitable?

I'm sure BMW considered that already.

He apparently lived in Munich for many years so these things don't get him excited. For those of us on our side of the pond though they are a huge deal.

Interesting. I'll have to go over there and check that out. Sadly that forum has been significantly less active these days, especially the ED forum since ED died.

My parents just got a new Corvette. I asked if they were going to do a factory delivery about 2h away, which Chevy charges $1000 for, and its certainly not the extravagance that you get with a Welt delivery experience. The drive back of I75 isn't quite the autobahn. And you still have to pay the delivery fee even if you are picking it up at the factory and "delivering" it on your own. I'd consider paying a little bit for option to do ED again.

Yes. It was offered at a discount previously. You would save money (excluding travel costs) by doing ED. Even getting rid of the discount would help BMW justify it.

BMW still has models that are assembled in Germany, and the purpose built delivery facility aka the Welt is not going anywhere. So chances are the ED program will be revived. They can even charge (which they still do for German customers) for those who enjoy the privilege of having a bratwurst at the upstairs lounge and seeing their brand new BMW being driven out from an elevator by a random German guy

It’s not like we want BMW to offer ED for X3/5/7 which I can certainly say it will never happen. Therefore, hope is still here, but don’t hold your breath tho

Sorry for resurrecting a year old thread. I'm new to the forum and wondered if anything had changed or looks like it's changing for European Delivery?

I'm from Canada and had the pleasure of touring the Welt facility 5 years ago, always dreamed of doing European Delivery. I currently have an M3 comp production scheduled for week 20. If this was coming back in MY23 I'd push out for sure.

Sorry again for bringing up an old thread. I tried to search first before posting new.

For US military sales, we pick up our US spec cars at the military sales BMW dealer here in Germany but since we are stationed here for XX amount of years we can drive our cars all over Europe. I know it's not the same experience but at least the car can be driven all over Europe and we are not rushed for time.

My 2 cents

Cannot comment on BMW Euro Delivery (ED) specifics, but some may find this interesting. Incidentally, another thread in this forum recently was asking us to petition BMW to reinstate ED.

I gather that in one form or another, BMW, MBZ, Porsche, and Saab all had formal ED programs (apparently in that order by quantity of cars delivered). BMW and MBZ discounted 7% on standard cars and 5% for high performance lines (Ms and AMGs). Porsche did not discount and I do not know about Saab.

MBZ's ED cars had other benefits (anybody with BMW ED experience please enlighten us). Destination fees did not apply to ED cars and they did _not_ come from a dealer's allocation; they came out of some special factory allocation. Most CAs did not understand this, and many that did resented it.

In 2018 I asked a dealer what kind of discount I could get for an ED C63s coupe. They told me a 5% manufacturer discount. I asked "No dealer discount?" They said "No, we are selling all of our allocation," meaning that they would begrudgingly take an order at MSRP and they would prefer to sell an on-the-lot or already ordered car that was bloated with expensive options.

I contacted one of the two U.S. MBZ ED specialists then, Herbert Hammer who then worked out of an Escondido dealership and handled 80+ ED cars per year. I bought and took ultimate delivery in Escondido but Herbert had sold two cars ultimately delivered in Anchorage the month before. MBZ had a set sales commission split on ED cards: selling dealer got 4 parts and delivering dealer got 1 part. One phone call and two emails later I had a deal totaling 9.25% off MSRP.

I paid my deposit January 2nd, picked up my car on May 17th, and dropped it off in Bremerhaven on May 31st. I toured the Sindelfingen and Affalterbach (AMG) factories, and after the wear in period I did 160 mph briefly on one section of the autobahn (truth be told, there is very little of the autobahn anymore were it is practical to do 120 mph for more than 1-2 minutes).

Other than the formal ED programs there were and may still be other options. In 2005 a MBZ CA suggested ED in place of an apparent pre-existing European Pick-up (EP) program. Under EP one could order a U.S. spec car and go use it in Europe. There was no discount and no formal pick-up ceremony. How one handled insurance, licensing, etc. I do not know but it was doable. With enough money anything is doable.

I took U.S. delivery on my '18 C63s in Escondido California on August 6th. It still had its EU license plates and California had not started using paper temporary plates yet. On September 1st I drove to Fort Lauderdale Florida. My EU plates raised a few eyebrows, including two drivers of EU-plated cars in South Beach. They had literally shipped their cars over from Europe, and they has assumed I was a fellow oligarch.

Correction: European Union plates (circle of stars) are not put on cars going to North America. My car had German plates, but I remember them as being blue rather than red as in some of the pictures posted by others.
