G80 M3C Portimao Blue . . . Part VII (Spacers Part II)
Mid-day, sunny . . . Couple intents behind this post 1. About 500 miles since taking ownership two weeks ago. Driven in the rain at least a couple times; lots of highway miles over past few days. No washes since taking ownership; not personally inclined toward aesthetic maintenance. With image magnification, apparent the windshield is littered with bug carcasses; less apparent, but front end is similarly littered . . . no doubt, stone chips have also started to accrue. Up-close and in-person, a layer of dirt/grime has accumulated on exterior surfaces. Nonetheless, from typical observation distances, Portimao Blue maintains a relatively 'clean' look. Not a personal factor but, for some, the ability to 'hide' dirt – or lack thereof – is important in choosing one paint color over another. 2. Wanted to include outdoor pics with spacers. Aside from a little desired 'poke,' the spacers produced a nice 'filling' of the wheel well. Personally, this is particularly true in the front where the stock wheels/tires are 'tucked' inward way too far. Also in the front, stock fender-to-tire gap too wide for my taste. Spacers attenuated the appearance of this gap. Springs have already begun to settle; 7-9mm so far by my measurement. Combined, spacers and settling make the front gap acceptable according to my subjectivities. Given a bit more time, anticipate the front gap will settle out close to my ideal. |

Thank you for you kind comments Please reference posts 'Parts I-III' earlier in this thread. I suggest 'broken clouds' as descriptor, but I was probably being generous with the 'broken' part. Also, pics at dusk convey similar effect as daytime cloud cover. I believe in some of the pics you can see the actual density of cloud cover. The less light, the more PB takes on a darker blue/purplish hue; the more light, the lighter/brighter blue hue comes through. Nonetheless, if I am out and about and the clouds are providing a dense curtain to the sun, I will take some pics and gladly provide them to you. . . but I think your request just assured me of days on end of sunshine. ///AVM Edit: Look at this pic with sun coming off the left. You can see a wide range of 'hues' associated with Portimao Blue across the hood, as the sun intensity varies accordingly. This is not the full range of hues, but good sampling. Looking really good for a blue car with 500 miles without a wash!
You really need to get it washed though!! Looks like the weather is nice enough for an hour of bonding with your car

I sound flippant on Bimmerpost when I indicate I'm not into routine car washing/detailing. Not my intent, as I know and respect that many members do thoroughly enjoy the process. I enjoy and appreciate a clean car, but conceded such interest to the elements. . . what I do share in common with many on this forum is a passion for driving the machines. As to the ability of Portimao Blue to hide the dirt and road war scars, it does appear to fare quite well for a darker color. Give me another month or two and I will show you the limits of its abilities In terms of my driving experience with the G80, enjoying the hell out of it! ///AVM |

Once upon a time I had my Z4M Coupe as my weekend car and never used it to commute, so it was fun every time I drove it but now I feel I never really enjoyed it enough. My G80 will be my daily as long as the weather is nice and I'm not parking it at the airport or a park-n-ride or car rental parking lot for business travel. At least for the first couple of years I'll try to keep it as clean as I could.

I hear you . . . and respect that everyone enjoys their vehicles and time differently. Obviously, I took ownership of Portimao Blue and simply wanted to share with others - who might be considering the color - what they could expect . . . including its ability maintain a respectable appearance in the absence of routine washing/detailing. No doubt, regardless of color, a clean car looks better than a dirty car . . . I personally do not care to try and keep up with the house keeping, but by no means suggesting others should share my perspective. ///AVM |

Due to your posts, I think I might get PB. Your car looks great and your point about the car not being high maintenance is right up my alley. |

Appreciate your feedback. . . glad I could be of help in your decision process. Nearly all of the color options look great in the showroom photos, and many will never have the opportunity to see most of the colors they think the like in person and/or various real world lighting conditions before having to make a decision. The irony is that I am not particularly fond of the G80/82 aesthetic design, nor did I buy it according to such subjective standard. I enjoyed the PERFORMANCE of my M2C immensely and wanted to experience the BMW icon. I am happy with the Portimao Blue color choice and accompanying options chosen, but the G80 performance is what I am most interested in continuing to explore and enjoy. Regardless of color chosen, I have no doubt you too will enjoy driving the G80 (or G82). ///AVM Last edited by ///AVM; 04-27-2021 at 10:06 AM.. |

Is it just me or do black wheels look great on PB? I was planning on bi-color, but on PB looks good with black wheels, IMO.

The black wheels do look way better than I expected. I also plan to do bi-color but all these black wheel photos make me think I'd be happy with either.

I'm still debating black or grey orbit. Hoping by the time I get my car that a used set of one or the other ends up being sold by a forum member so I can use it for a winter setup. If I have to use winter wheels for 4-6 months out of the year, might as well look good LOL. |

G80 M3C Portimao Blue . . . Part VIII
Hero
Per your request . . . about as overcast as it gets, short of storm clouds with concurrent rain. I am just about the furthest thing from being a photographer. All my pics come with the simple click of an iPhone camera. Still, I think the photos presented in this thread are quite representative of what I see in person. In this case, particularly the bottom photo, you can see the purple hue really coming through in diminished lighting (cloudy conditions). As I have hopefully shown, Portimao Blue is a very dynamic color with blue and purple hues dominating. Knowing this is important for those considering the color, as some may find out they only like the color half the time. If the car looks like it has been washed since the last pics . . . got to love the BMW service departments Hope this helps ///AVM |

You guys. Stop it. If we keep up these pics I'm going to have to cash in ALL my chips to override the wife for a PB M3. She would at least agree with the Tartufo full interior! dammit this is going to be bad.
