C7 vette to G82
Anyone came from C7 corvette to G82 and would share their opinions
I have a 2019 C7 GS MT and looking at G82 base MT. I understand it's not apples to apples comparison as they are different cars, former is a sports car and later a sports coupe with luxury touches, I am blown away with the interior finish on the G82, BMW has come a long way indeed. I have owned 4 BMWs in the past , from.e92 335 to 2 F80 M3s, later a competition model and didn't like the very stiff suspension. The last one was a M2C, awesome machine but didn't like the shape and height of the car felt like a sedan and hence traded in for the 19 GS C7 which I currently own and love. It's a beast and pure power machine but lacks the luxury touches of the M4 , yet to drive a M4. Basically new car fever has crept in 😀 What are your thoughts, would I repent ?

I don't have a C7 GS but i have a C7Z.
The Z06/ZR1 are in a class of it's own. No M car can touch it when you talk about pure performance and looks. However if this is going to be your only car, then perhaps the M4 might be a better choice. Especially if you get the x-drive. However i am fortunate enough to own both my C7Z (with the C8Z on the way this year hopefully), and my M3 comp that whenever i want to be in a race car, i'll hop in the vette. If i want something a bit more practical where not every single person on the highway wants to race me or take a shit load of pictures, i'll hop in the M3. If you can swing it, have both. |

Since you drive both how would you describe the M4 against vette? I need a manual and hence can't buy the M4 competition which I would have if they offered a a MT |

My C7Z is a manual. They're both different cars. I didn't know people cross shop between them lol. When i was going to buy an M car, it wasn't to replace my C7Z, because NO M car can do that, for me at least. I got an M car to sit alongside my C7Z for different purposes. My vette is mainly a weekend car, cruises, self pleasure driving etc. The M3 is a car i can take out randomly during the work week if i want something sporty to drive that's an auto. I could do it right after work, even during rush hour and not care, because of that auto. They're both used differently and if i could only have one, i would choose the corvette, always, because it's just special. If you want to talk about driving characteristics. Corvette has better brakes, more power, more engaging driving experience, gets more attention because it looks better. M3 is easier to drive, easier to go fast (because of the auto) and can be enjoyable while staying stealth because it's not totally an eye grabber. |

You are not my best case scenario as you own both the cars which is ideal. Anyways you can't compare a 650 hp car to a 500 hp car
The reason I am looking at a M4 is because its a sports coupe with luxury touches and although different car like what I am seeing so far. |

I've owned both…. The M is just different. More refined but not as raw. Still does very well. It feels classy and sporty. The Z was wild and unstable.
I dig em both so if that helps …. Pic of both.

Before my C7Z, i owned a cammed LS3 C6. Which made 470rwhp. So probably the same as my M3 since BMW underrates their cars power. My above comment still applies to that, if you want to take the C6/C7 looks out of the equation. The feeling you get from a corvette is different than an M3/M4. In a corvette you're in a race car. In an M car, you're in a fast luxury sports car. It's different. If you want change, then definitely get the M4. I was just saying for me i couldn't replace the corvette with any M car, as corvettes are special. I just got an M car to go along with it. Different purposes, different cars, for different moods. |

I remember you from the M2C board. I traded in my DCT M2C for my 6MT M3 about 13 months ago, and I only drove a C7 vette once so I'm not sure I can send you the perspective you're looking for any more than BGM can...but:
I haven't had a single day of regretting the trade between the M2C and the G80. Some of that is returning to a manual, but a lot of it is that, despite the size of the G8x, BMW really did learn a lot from the F8x cars, including the M2C. The F80 and the F87C both feel less polished (or more raw) than the G8x, and the G8x is a significant (but not Earth-shattering) increase in competence all around in 6MT form. It's the same transmission as the F8x, so you won't be surprised by it at all...but the rest of the car is a serious step up. It is an exceedingly competent luxury sports sedan (or coupe). It does that VERY well. The folk that have been disappointed with it are, by and large, the folk that were looking for it to be a 911 or just as much of a true sports car as a C7 or a 718 GT4. Medium story short, if you're really looking for a "luxury" sports coupe with a manual that can be had for a relatively reasonable price, it's a good car to throw your money at. But don't do it if you expect it to match the raw feeling from the Vette. |

I had a C7, sold it mostly because it was getting too difficult for me to get in and out of. The G82 sits a bit higher and I didn't have to grunt too much to get out of it. Road noise is less in the BMW, and the ride is about the same, best as I can remember. It's difficult to compare a V8 to an I6, but they are both great engines. The steering is probably a bit more communicative in the BMW, but more notchy and artificial. I prefer the shifter and clutch in the Chevy to the BMW, but that superfluous 7th gear made the shift pattern closer than I cared for.
My C7 smelled like a model airplane glue factory. Weak paint and all that cheap plastic inside (although an improvement upon earlier models). The BMW fit & finish is in a different category.

Get the G82. I've owned a few Porsche's and this generation is as close to Porsche feel (except for steering) and performance as it's ever been for half the price and more practicality. If it had DCT and better design I think you probably would've had a lot more Porsche fan boys jump onto this. Can't wait for the CS.

I think you've got the right mentality, one is a sports car that has some nice touches while the other is a luxury car with sports car elements. What do you need this car to be? Something you take out on weekends or something where you can live with daily, throw people in, and still enjoy driving? I think that's the magic of modern day M cars. They are all very enjoyable to drive to a certain degree and offer a ton of lux at the same time without costing an arm and a leg.
The downside to consider is that the C8 is DCT only and if/when you get that new car feeling again, you may be out of luck with getting a true manual unless you step up to a Porsche.

LOL meaning even if i just take the car to fucking mcdonalds and then back home is still satisfying because of the sound, the attention i get, the way the car feels and drives.
After 5 months of owning my M3, i never got that feeling yet. Don't get me wrong, i love the M3. But it doesn't give me the same feeling my corvettes have given me. And i knew this before getting the M3. Which is why the M3 is an addition, not a replacement. |

Vette is a lot more exciting even when sitting in idle. But forget about refinement. BMW feels a lot more modern, isolated even, but still feels special. I've owned 1 Vette, but 2 Ms. The M2 won over the C7 GS for me. |

I went from a 2017 C7GS manual to my 2021 M3 comp. Tracked the vette a few times before I decided that was an expensive hobby I didn't really love. I drove it as often as I could (My winter beater is a 2019 Ram 1500) and ended up putting 20k miles on it in about 3.5 years. Great looks and great sound. The manual transmission was..."fine". I've driven better and I've driven worse.
I think I finally realized I wanted something different after my wife got a Mercedes GL350. The interior was incredible and made me realize I wanted something fast but with a nice interior. To be honest, I really liked the looks in the media photos of the M3. It pulls harder than the C7 but that's to be expected with the significant HP bump. Surprisingly, it hooks better than my C7 even with the narrower tires. Seems like better traction control in the BMW. If I could have landed a C8 in early 2021 I would probably have that but the waitlist at my preferred dealer was 45 people deep. I keep an eye out now but it still seems they're pretty hard to find and I'm a bit of an impulse buyer. I'm happy with my purchase and enjoy the drive every time I fire it up. |

The BMW feels more "on" the car. It's low to the ground but nowhere close to the vette seating position. I don't have to fall into it. And you've got an entire back seat behind you. It's very "tossable" but it's no vette. The C7GS is an incredible track car - look at C&D's lightning lap results. The M3 is way more comfortable and it's faster in the way I drive it now, which is mainly putting mustangs and camaros in my rear view on the highway on my way to work. |
