I am typically in the camp of thinking that the fewer duty cycles, the better. As long as you’re using something enough to prevent issues from underuse. In my cars with start-stop, I typically hit the button to turn it off. |

Just curious, why bother to code this? In my US spec car at least, it remembers the button setting for this - so I haven’t had to worry about it in months. (It’s nice that the M cars here, at least the manual transmission ones, hold this setting through ignition cycles - I don’t know of many other new cars here that don’t make you push the button to disable auto S/S every time you turn the car on.)

It does not make any difference in engine life; it does improve fuel mileage but it's annoying

That's odd, my G82 remembers the setting. I set it off and it is off since the first day I got it. Would doubt there is a difference between NSW and QLD build

I turn it off. I find it annoying and I am more concerned with starter wear and tear and less concerned with a theoretical mileage improvement. If mileage were my primary concern, I would rive a Prius.

Well technically the engine starting and stopping does cause additional wear to the engine, and a lot of manufactures need to add stronger parts to deal with the wear over time. I also think its kinda dumb cuz youre not really saving gas or anything.
I personally coded it off my G82 and Supra using Bimmercode Hope this helps. |

There is an interesting comment from Papadakis about this:
Min 11:58: Basically he noticed a coating in the rod bearings, this extra protection he said, could be for the auto start stop feature. So obviously it will cause extra wear, when the engine is off, it will take a bit of time for the crank to be lubricated. I always disable this feature, if I can reduce the bearing wear, I will. |

It can be annoying when you don't want it, but I like it. It mos def saves gas and its stupid to sit in a huge line of cars for whatever reason just polluting and having money go out of the exhaust for not reason. May not be extremely significant, but it's something.
