Loudest Intake (front mount vs bay)
I’ve heard so many mixed opinions on this. I’m aware the power gains are negligible, I’m just looking to have fun with the loudest induction noise possible. I’m thinking that with the ones in the bay they’d be louder just because you are closer as the driver. Or are the front mounts just superior in being louder as they suck more air in theory?
Any reccs? Looking at mst and rk mainly. Any help appreciated! Last edited by TyKa1999; 04-12-2024 at 11:18 AM.. |

Basically you've hit the nail on it's head, Front mounts are always louder because of 2 reasons they're closer to the driver and front-mount intakes can produce a distinct sound by drawing in air directly from the front of the vehicle

Louder for everyone else will be front mount. Here is my PJ front mount. Go to the end of the vid, or watch it full

If you drive with the windows down the front mounts are the way to go.
Here is a mic setup on another vehicle . M3 not tuned and is just cruising with very little throttle input. Tuned cars will have dramatically more induction sounds. . Engine bay intakes @ 3:30

Theoretically, the fronts are louder as the airflow is better, but it depends on the brand (filters).
I have tested a few brands and had some fronts be quieter than the regular intakes. If you want a loud intake, I recommend the MAD front. Thats the loudest one, in my opinion

ARM intakes are also an option. It’s the cheapest if you’re just looking for noise which is all most of these will give you anyway.
I’ve got them sitting in my garage waiting to go on after my break in service. Look decent for what they are. They are also “unique” looking compared to everything else on the market that are all just variations of the same 2 designs. Youtube sound clips

Hold up… If you want to hear the whoosh from inside the cabin then the ARM Shorty Silicones are superior. I have them and they whoosh a ton. IATs are not a problem that I’ve experienced with ARMs.
I also have a set of RK silicone front mounts to install for racing (coldest IATs possible). The front mounts whoosh more if you’re in front of the car, which is why they sound best on YouTube drive-by videos. Unless you have an IAT issue or need I suggest the ARMs over front mounts. +1 on GolfCoyote

Do the intakes make a lot for cabin noise when driving?

All front mounts sound like that just depends on how aggressive you are driving it.
Not when cruising no, sound is going to be related to how much boost you are pushing at the time. See this stock boost m2 at wot

Front mount intakes are louder (to people outside of the car not the driver), if that's not what you are looking for, the regular intake is the better fit since its easier to install
