Yeah I see their influence, way on the bottom of every other fashion brand they could've collab'd with, KITH is NOT an influential brand, making minimalist shit and putting KITH on top is not design
This is the current trend in nearly all fashion; see LV, Gucci, Dior, Balenciaga, Palm Angles etc.

In my opinion the word "KITH" just sounds like some noise, harsh, cacophonous. Why would I want that etched all over my brand new M? Spoils the look of the CF roof too.

The clothing and accessories collection is pretty great, actually. Now that I've perused the whole thing in more detail. So i think the collaboration might be a success overall, and as others have already said, get BMW more of a footprint in the fashion and streetwear markets.

The real problem for me is the car itself. I understand why you'd make it as a cornerstone and statement piece for the whole collection - the branding is just too over the top. Also couldn't they have done it on a non-terrible looking car like the M2 or the M5? Lol

Who would you have them rather collab with? Tommy Hilfiger? Ralph Lauren? Old School played out brands? Kith has done collabs with Disney, Coca Cola, Moncler, ect..they're doing something right.

Yup, I am very aware of that demographic and I do not associate with it. If that’s where BMW wants to shifts their focus to, good for them, because it is a very lucrative, albeit frivolous segment. Since BMW is no longer focused on providing the ultimate driving machine, I’ll be moving my money where passion for cars and driving is still a priority, a brand for which there is no substitute .

I partially agree, but for a different reason.

The fashion industry is fickle, short lived and frivolous by very definition. The attention gathered here will evaporate shortly, because something else hip&cool will divert the short attention spans away. I would try to base my collaborations with something that has more staying power.

And what is the point of reaching out to a demographic that, as has been said here, has zero interest in cars? Not like you can change their minds.

Personally, I find most of the details garish. Except the seat color scheme.

First BMW copies the digital dash of the 1984 Corvette now they copy the Corvette's main stay of large logo branded sweatpants - Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

I wonder if he was really in charge of the car collab because it seems so dissonant with the rest of the collection (and his very nice understated E30). But i think the color scheme of the car is pretty good, especially the interior.

On the part of BMW i think it's a huge mistake to bastardize your logo and your visual brand identity like that. It's advertising and branding 101, really.
Slapping your brand name on everyday items is not designing.

washed up? please explain how that term fits into not knowing what Kith is. Because generally that means no longer successful, which has nothing to do with knowing obscure fashion brands.

One problem, which company is that? VAG? Daimler? Fiat?

no car company is about passion anymore, they have all merged and changed focus. Remember VAG owns Porsche.

Everyone needs to save up for their dream car before autonomous driving becomes standard and car companies stop making "sports cars" because of it. Unless a Tesla is your dream car...

I'm glad someone finally said this. If you want to collaborate with Kith and let them emboss 5000 instances of the name into the seats, or do a special "Ba da da da da I'm lovin' it" M-cDonalds red & yellow X1, that's one thing. But never, ever bastardize your logo (perfect word, Darth One). The prestige and image that comes with the M Division's "M" logo has taken almost 50 years to cultivate. Creating M Performance variants weakens it enough already, but to now swap someone else's brand name into the logo is unjustifiable. BMW apparently forgot how many tens of thousands of hours drivers had to spend on the track, and the work that so many great engineers had to put in, for the "M" logo to have the meaning it has today. Whomever made the final call to allow that to happen shouldn't even be given a box to collect their belongings, they should be walked out of the building with a cordial "don't worry, we'll clean out your desk and send it to you."

To be clear, my comment has nothing to do with this car or this collaboration. It's about your brand - it takes decades to build a brand, but you can kill one in minutes.
