Rectangular area in grill and US license plate placement?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hello All,

First time BMW buyer. I ordered the m4 CS and it should be here sometime March. I have had MBs, Lexus, Audi's. I have a few questions I'm wondering if people can help me with. I was looking at the grill pics and see a rectangular box on the lower right side. What is that? Also, I don't see a specific area where the front license plate should be placed (US Versions). Has anyone seen how they are being placed yet?

Thank you for your time.

I am fine with grill, and other aspects of the car. I can't wait to actually see how they drive

Hello and welcome to Bimmerpost!

The rectangular box is a sensor array for the active driving assistance features. It is optional equipment.

The US license plate will be located in the same place as the license plates are located in other parts of the world - on the crossbar in the grill.

Many words have been written about the grill in this forum, and you can find a wealth of information using Google searches like:

https://www.google.com/search?q=site...m+grill+sensor
https://www.google.com/search?q=site...om+grill+plate

Feel free to play with the search terms to narrow things down.

Enjoy.

To be more precise, the rectangular box is a radar sensor. It enables ACC (adaptive cruise control) to work.
