I didn't mention the Caymen. In my opinion, it's not on GT3 level. Also the maint is much greater than the M. There is just no comparison between an All wheel drive, turbo, 4000 lb car and a GT3. GT3 is probably the most fun car I have ever driven. It;s like a go-kart. They are not the most powerful by a long shot, but are amazing to drive

I agree I drove a GT3RS for a while they are super loud and unreal on cornering and handling in general. Not good acceleration tho- I floored it and until
It redlined it was so slow. So not that fun around the streets/highway.

Bingo, you hit the nail on the head. I’m pissed that BMW isn’t making one anymore .

The linear power delivery can be deceptive, a 991.2 GT3RS accelerates quite faster than a F8X...

Reading through this thread, it seems the two camps talking past each other:

Track-focused = wine and cheese crowd
1/4 mile dragsters = chip and dip

Or vice versa, you choose lol.

It's easier to get 1/4 mile times around me than getting to the track (only a few hpde's that were loads of fun and educational to boot!), so having a slight tendency to tinker/mod gives me a fun way to validate the changes i make. So, the intent isn't to outdrag the heavily modded hellcat next to me per se, but more to see what kind of real world power my whip puts down (in a somewhat controlled environment of course).

This is all assuming that the ECU in the new G8x can be cracked in the first place (see here)..

God I hope we don't start comparing M3/4's to A GT3 RS. That makes me laugh

Indeed, I find it a bit laughable when folks say a GT3RS "feels slow". Definitely not my impression after driving one on track.

No doubt. I have not personally driven an RS but my buddy has a 2019 GT3 Miami blue and the thing screams!! If you have any driving skills, the are NOT NOT slow at acceleration!! Maybe he was in 5th gear out of the turns? LOL Next we will be comparing them to a GT2 Rs. They feel slow to I've heard. Ba ha ha ah

you're the one who brought up a GT3 and said people should get a GT3 instead when the thread is literally asking people if they think the straight line acceleration on four door DD AWD G80's will be insane 🤡 and yes the top end on a GT3RS is great but the low end has no torque

Nah bro. I'm the one who replied to someone who said to get a GT3 if you want to track a car. My point was, if people could afford a Gt3 tracking it or not, that's what they would buy. I love my M4 for what it is. I would probably get the all wheel drive one but RS6 is my next new project. I was thinking of waiting for the Z06 to come out. I just don't like RWD cars much anymore.

I agree. I just bought my wife a new M5 and even though it's bigger I'm loving the AWD. that was the main point of my post- I love my F80 right now but I wish I could switch to AWD whenever I want- probably my main reason to buy a G80 AWD

I will take the extra weigh to have the traction! I know the boost by gear and tuning is getting better and better. I just love Rolling Boost in my GTR. It takes off like a rocket with almost no spinning. I personally don't road course my cars. I'm a fan of roll racing.

I love it too, but I've found it can be dangerous when you think you've switched back to AWD by hitting the M button twice, and it didn't actually change. Several times I've stepped on it hard exiting a corner, expecting it to hook and go, but instead I'm completely sideways at 70mph. Sometimes its picky and you have to lift off the gas completely to get it to switch, sometimes you don't have to.

You mean like a Corolla?

So we've finally come to the point where in a discussion among car enthusiasts, one is arguing for heavier cars, justifying that they are OK. I get the sense that if the G8x was heavy as a Mack truck and looked like mole-rat, some people will still defend it and claim it's not so bad.

I guess we’ll soon see with 200kg batteries added from here on...brace yourself.

Times are changing and cars with it. A car in 2021 is expected and in some cases forced to have certain features and characteristics over those in 2014 when the F8X was launched and most come with added weight. BMW also need to balance a budget resulting in a reasonably priced car. Would a full carbon fibre tub or alu chassis fit inside that budget? Not likely.

How about a four pot engine with less power than the F8X in a lighter package? Where.does that leave the relation to the M2?

It’s all but guaranteed that the G8X will outperform the F8X as a daily family car (not difficult taken how loud the F8X is on the hwy) and in faster lap times on the track. Quite a few here are good with that and excited to take delivery soon or are eagerly waiting for proper reviews and to test drive the car. Still a lot of posts are shouting what a let down it is before it have a chance to show what it really is or isn’t.

At some stage you need to change segment to a smaller sports car or accept more weight but also higher performance cause this segment is only going one way from now on. Actually that is not even new. Compare the E30’s weight with the F80’s as an example.

Now we still have the new M2 coming and maybe a special edition of that is the last hurrah for those seaking a 4 seater in the sub 3500 lbs range but then you can’t whine about that it’s not as fast, nicely appointed or spacious as the G8X...

Another thing to consider is that most of the automotive world praise the 5000lbs Taycan as a savior of the driving enthusiast. That the future is still bright based upon that car. 5000 lbs...the G8X is 3800.

Lets get some on the road, crack the ECU and hit mid 10's. Then we can start the convo on getting into the 9's. Then getting 900-1000 HP builds going to see what's going to break. After all that, then the G models can start winning some races against the big boys

Anyone have any updates on the ECU issue? I'm sure someone will find a way

My dealer said to be careful and that he heard the new M3 ECU will have cloud communication so BMW will be keeping an eye on things. He has a tuned M340 too, so he's not opposed to it. Thus I believe him.
