Active Autowerke or MAD midpipe?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Deciding between the AA equal length, AA single, and MAD single midpipes on stock setup. They all seem pretty similar so I'm wondering what the minor differences are. If anyone has recommendations, please let me know!

This thread answers some of your questions.

https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1997084

Sound should be relatively the same.

Biggest differences you will notice.

1.Price $$$
2.We have a 2 piece mid-pipe for extra adjustability and flexibility for non oem rear mufflers.
3. We offer a Lifetime Warranty.

Pros of AA, they offer X-pipe, equal length, and single midpipe
They also offer a catted X-pipe, and a resonated single midpipe
MAD offers only one type, which is the regular single.

MAD is an excellent value item if that's the only one you are interested in.

Apart from the variety of offerings and price, is there any advantage (difference) in terms of sound on AA (single) compared to MAD? And what are the differences in sound for AA x, equal, and single?

The MAD single midpipe and the active autoworke single midpipe will sound the same.

The single has a deep midrange tone
the x-pipe is not as good in the midrange but more aggressive in the high RPM
the equal length gives you the best of both worlds; the sound is clean with closed valves and gets very aggressive with open valves. But its also the most expensive, with the AA Equal length costing almost twice the MAD single.

Same thing… the AA brace still needed washers to clear. I have the AA and wish I saved the hundred.

Odd, we have more than a 1/4 inch of space between the pipe and our bracket.

Perhaps it needs more patience to tweak. I can only spend so much time on on a concrete floor

Yeah I would definitely try adjusting it. When were testing and did not have a brace it only required 4 small washers so a modified brace should definitely work. Good luck with it.

It does.

When I installed mine, it looked good, but as soon as I started driving, I could hear a drone.

I put it back on the lift and adjusted it by a few mm, and thats all it took.

I’ll give it a go next time it’s up. It’s not touching with the washers, but I’d rather have it properly setup and get my $1 of washers back haha

Thanks for the insight as usual! The intakes sound great btw!

if it helps, what I did was leave the rear sleeve and ball clamps loose enough to let the midpipe move, just barely threaded on the brace, took a small object, in my case, a rubber bmw jack pad, and put it between the midpipe and the brace, and tightened the brace down. Then I tightened the midpipe down and wiggled the rubber jack pad out. This left me a perfect gap between the brace and the midpipe after everything was tightened down.

For MAD midpipe, I placed a small piece of wood between the brace and the pipe. I kept everything loose to adjust as needed especially the rear section with the smaller pipes and clamps. Sometimes the smaller pipes can be twisted in a way that will move the system up higher. Once everything is set I loosen the brace and remove the small piece of wood and then reinstall.

I have about 1/2" of clearance.

If you don't have a exhaust jack lift this is a great way to do it.

Would you say the equal length is overall a larger enhancement to the sound than single since it has the same midrange tones but also more aggressive at higher ranges?

Starting to get impatient with the MAD resonated midpioe. Ordered early mid March from x-ph for a late March delivery. Then the date changed to May, now I see it states June 01….

What’s the hold up and will the part ever arrive? I prefer the sound of the MAD to the AA but the date keeps slipping

So it’s around 1600 bucks but you get a nice midrange enhancement and better high end pairing it with a valve controller ?

Apologies for the extended lead time on this product, compounded by an additional 15-day delay due to a shipping issue. The demand exceeded our expectations, leading to a quicker sell-out. We're diligently working to replenish our stock and minimize future delays.
