Ignoring Chris Harris’ opinions on the looks, which are entirely subjective, I get the impression he’d be even happier with the 6MT. The little delay he described wouldn’t be there with the manual.
Personally, I’m even more sure I made the right choice with the manual. |

100% glad I went with the MT after reading the reviews. Feel like the comp is a great car and a big step up, but 6MT has all those benefits + has the benefit of being a more special car that will be looked back on even more fondly

Doug Demuro really praised the 6MT I'm thrilled to hear steering has improved and the 6mt feels precise and shorter throws. Seems the purist win BIG!!! |

I love that they still make it with the manual but the entire point of the G80 is that it's a more liveable daily than the F80. So if it's going to be my daily, I'm going to go auto with the AWD for sure.

I know this has been said about the prior generation M3, but this may truly be the last manual M3 ever made. If so, this car will hold its value very well.

I'm sad that Doug mentioned that the shift knob doesn't have a light like the previous M3s. I guess I'll have to DIY it like I did on my M2C.

I’ve been daily driving rear wheel drive manual BMWs for 13 years in Michigan year round. The only challenge to doing that I don’t experience often is stop and go traffic, thankfully. I will be using my G80 manual the same way. I sure hope it works out as well.

I knew manuals were being phased out but I don't think I wanted to accept it. Hearing all these reviewers harp on about how this is likely the last car to have one made me feel like I have no other choice but to get one and to make it a manual.

I own a manual for track use and I find myself basically never driving it unless I really want to go out and hoon. Also, my SO can't/won't drive a manual, so we need at least one auto that can be dailied and the Aston ain't that.

I voted yes but only because the reviews would have to be pretty poor to deter me from a car I may be interested in. I'm still of the personal belief that you shouldn't buy a car based on someone else's review because cars are a personal thing and the car has to make you feel happy to drive it and performance numbers don't always make for great ownership experience. I'm very happy with the ZF8 in my X3M so Chris Harris mentioning a slight delay has no bearing on my ownership as I'm not driving on a track daily where a millisecond matters to me. A lot of people made their decisions a long time ago and either like or hate the car and simply use little bits of reviews as confirmation bias as we are already seeing in the review thread so at the end of the day the biggest thing to pull from the reviews is that the car is great and not a stinker but like every single car ever made it's not perfect and not for everyone.

For some people the manual just doesn’t fit their needs. I’m not trying to rain o their parade. I came VERY close to ordering the Comp instead myself. |

The end of Doug demuro's review where he revealed he gave the 2018 M5 a 10/10 in handling and the 2018 M3 CS only an 8 out of 10....

Doug also doesn't track the test cars so his handling scores are based on road driving. I honestly don't watch his reviews for his performance opinions in particular as he's best when he's going over the interior/exterior design cues and quirks as to me he's only half of the equation when reviewing the car and a guy like Chris Harris is the other half with his performance verdict.

Well that's kind of what I'm getting at: there is supposed to be a tuning difference between brands, however, I've personally never been able to tell a fundamental difference in the shifting characteristics of any ZF8 implementation I've driven. It's also confusing to me why the Giulia would supposedly better when the G8X would conceivably be tuned to be as aggressive as the ZF8 can be given it's following up a DCT. ZF8 is a great transmission but I think it's obvious now that replicating DCTesque clutch engagement with planetary clutch packs is just not going to happen. But that's fine and I think ZF8 is the right choice given the design direction the G8X has taken. Said another way, it might be odd that the G8X is so refined and improved on livability in a noticeable way but retained a somewhat quirky and brutal gearbox. Sure it would definitely enhance the feel/engagement of S58 but at the expense of G8X's duality. I'm sorry Manual guys, don't mean to de-rail your thread
