No insurance when crashing with summer tires on winterish conditions.
That's why the car is for sale and not in the workshop. Owner can't afford to pay for the repair himself. which would'nt make sense anyway. this car is totalled.

Hopefully they don't deny claims here in the US for that same reason since BMW barely offers any options for 22" wheels. I think our winter is almost over here and need to get through another month on these premium contact6 tires.

No, they aren't*.

*But the Insurance may not cover the damage.

All very good observations from all of you : )
Winter tires not compulsory, but insurance will not pay.
Whatever happened is a mystery, but clearly seeing the Pilot Sport 4S instead of the Winter tires is not a good sign.
The car has a license plate frame from the BMW dealer in Liestal/Muttenz near Basel.
At least one thing which is 100% accurate: the laws of physics cannot be ignored : )

Ummm i think we would be suprised by the numbers of M cars in Switzerland who are driven by people who can't own/afford ones, Which may explain why he had no winter tires. Taking a leasing to drive a car doesnt' mean you have the money to afford it. In its defence, the situation in Europe is impacting the tyre market, and availability is more restricted. If you don't order it many monthes before, you may face that no tyres are available. So I won't judge him/her.

So no it wasn't in Valais, but in Basel. After exiting a 50km/h zone he gave gas on a wet road and in the same time tried to avoid an animal. I hope the animal is safe. Here is the link to the original announcement from the Police of Basel Land: https://www.polizei-schweiz.ch/mutte...rsacht-unfall/

Sad for the car.

Fortunately, we don’t have bullshit laws like that here in North America that impede us from driving on summer tires

The only exception is on a mountain pass, where it’s posted… “traction tires required”
