BMW prototype testing videos including G80 M3, M8, etc. *SOUND*
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com We've seen plenty of camo photos of the new G80 M3 but i've been on the search for videos of it testing under load to no avail...until now! Admittedly its only a short flypast but its better than anything else I've come across so far. Also in the video are various other BMW prototypes including the M8, 8 series GC, X5,6M(?), new Audi RS6, Merc AMG GTR black series and the 992 GT3 (can definitely hear the effects of the OPF vs the previous generation). G80 M3 flypast can be heard at 7:50. Video starts at 2:30 for the start of prototype testing. Initial impressions seem to be that the G80 could sound quite alright, less raspy than the S55 for sure but it still has elements of the S55 underneath to me, also perhaps a bit more muted, no surprise since it'll have an OPF. Let me know what you think! Enjoy |

Wow... G80 is quiet. Whatever the sound will be behind the Otto particulate filter at this point

This video just further depresses me over the future of motor sport. I came here wanting to hear the pinnacle of 'M'. To have my senses tingled by the roar, rasp and crackle of power. Instead, I hear a stream of quieter cars with OPF filters, a clear reflection of general over regulation... and don't even get me started on the 'incredible' idea of GPS-enforced speed limiters, coming soon to a car near you.
Many of these cars are supposed to be a showcase of power and excitement. How can something that has the power of 500+ horses charging under it's bonnet conjure the equivalent excitement of a deflating balloon? Sorry guys, is it just me? When I visited Goodwood last year and I hear the ferocious engines of the past vs. the modern drone/electric of 2018, it left me saddened. Where is the bastion of hope? Someone please share some positive news that highlights exciting developments and promises for the future of the motor industry. It seems each day this industry becomes more regulated, more suppressed and less exciting. *rant over* |

GPS speed limiter. When I saw that in the newspaper last week I was literally stunned at such a ridiculous idea. Doesn't that turn every performance based car into just a regular run of the mill one? Is there even any point in owning anything with more power at that point? Bye bye supercars? Or are they just allowed to accelerate to the speed limit at that point... Edit: Rewatching the video again I have to say everything does sound very muted and flat. Last edited by AD18; 04-01-2019 at 11:50 AM.. |

I think the g80 m3 is quiet, then again, maybe the background was too loud or asphalt sounds... nevertheless I have always heard m cars are quiet unless you unleash the beast..

I dunno about everyone else in this thread but I can hear it just fine and it sounds very Bavarian! Was that from 3rd to 4th? The G80 sounds exquisite. And obviously if it's not loud enough for your preference you can modify the exhaust.

the aftermarket exhaust manufacturers are going to be replaced by the audio companies.. just load up the rear bumpers with speakers and hack it in to the ASD... or even get your own sound... 320D tearing up the streets like a 65 ferrari daytona
