Reliable, comfort, cheaper: look to Japan, like Acura.

Volvo S60 PHEV. I think it may have lost the partial tax credit in 2024. 445 HP + 40 miles of electric range. Quite comfy. Tops out at around $59K (unless you spring for B&W sound system) Less for base version.

I had a 2023 RS6 briefly and it was more comfortable than my M3 with more space, but the M3 is more fun for a lot less $$$.

For something bigger the Volvo S90 PHEV too $75K really lux. Could wait for the new 550E Xdrive as well but that with fully loaded will be around $90K I think. I am fan of hybrid plug in.

Op is not looking for more space
My son just sold his 2023 M3C and replaced it with a MK 8 golf R and during the first drive home , his first comment was how much more comfortable the R is compared to M3
and he had 2 MK 7 , one MT one DSG , and so far he thinks the redesign is a home run
also as far as space is concerned , he has a rear facing car seat and the fit is tight but fairly similar to M3

Sorry, I've owned and lived with a Mk 7 GTi. Between the tighter interior, the flintier ride, the DSG's lack of low speed smoothness, I'd never, ever describe the GTi as more comfortable. Is the ride slightly more comfortable? Maybe. Maybe I need to try a Mk 8.

If you find the ride quality too rough, you may want to check tire pressure or replace worn out tires.
I agree, the M3 and M4 are some of the best damped cars I’ve ever owned regardless of road condition. Suspension in sport is literally perfect for me.

To the OP - Instead of selling the car look at going down a size in wheels and get tires with more sidewall, then run them at the lower end of the recommended pressure range.

The base M3 wheels look nice and add a fair bit of compliance. You could go 18s all around or 18, 19 versus the 19, 20 on there now.

(Assuming you don’t have CCBs)

Also don’t bother looking at the X3M that thing is a nightmare suspension and ride comfort wise.

I have an MK8 manual GTI and just love it. I find it to have similar comfort to my old F80 M3. It is a sporty car that turns on a dime with firm suspension. Quiet on highways but super fun on canyon twisties out here in SoCal. Way less power but a lot of fun wringing it out on the manual! Great mileage and runs on regular too.

Well that explains it, because I thought the F80 rode like crap so.

Clearly my version of comfort is different. But to the OP, if he's looking to go more comfortable than a G80, clearly a Golf R is a lateral move at best, if not worse.

Oh I agree but I didn't buy for comfort I bought for fun. OP should look at 540 or similar.

Test driving the M340i and audi S5 this weekend!

Does anyone have any experience with the Genesis G70? Seems like you get a lot of luxury and features for the money.

The fact that you still can't get wireless carplay/android auto in a top trim Genesis (or Hyundai/Kia for that matter) immediately disqualifies them for me.

But, I care about that stuff, so if you don't, it's great value for the money.

Not a replacement, but I just bought a new Type R for my daily and the car is incredible. The steering feel and gearbox (both minor gripes on the G80) is sublime on the Type R.

The handling is very communicative, and just enough power to keep things lively, but not over power the chassis. The Type R being half the cost of the G80 is a bargain IMO.

I enjoy the G80 and Type R differently, so they will split time between my other cars as well.

When I was shopping for cars, the Type R was of interest (and it's cousin the Integra Type S), but crazy ADM fees brought it within $10k of the G80. If you truly got your Type R for half the cost, that is an awesome purchase!! Enjoy.

To the OP, have you considered Acura, Infiniti, and Lexus? The Lexus IS500 is a great value--dealers near me were selling a few thousand below sticker.

They have been selling @ MSRP in the east coast, but here in CA - I'm in the SF Bay Area - I had to pay a little markup. $4K. I was OK with that since I have no time or patience to source/ship a car from another state, and I prefer to buy a car I can visually inspect (even tho new) just OCD I guess.

I emailed several dealers near me who had a '24 Championship White in stock, and one dealer an hour away said they would do 4K over. I drove over there, wrote them a check, and was on my way home with the new car 2 hours after pinging them. Now that i've had the car and driven it, I don't even think about the $4K. Note that, I did get $3500 OFF my G80, so I call it a wash

That is a sweet deal skyline408 ! I did not check dealerships outside of the Pennsylvania, but the dealers by me in the Philadelphia area were asking $70k!
