Hi guys, question relating to locking the car. (New M3 Touring)

If I leave the vehicle and my missus/dog are left inside, how do I or they lock it.
On my current X3 there is a locking button on the inside of the passenger door, but I couldn’t see anything inside the Demo M3 Touring I borrowed last week?

There is the button on the driver side but is that the only way? To lean over and press?

Press the lock button (BMW logo) on the remote, then a second time within ten seconds will deactivate the motion sensor/alarm. That’s what I do when I leave the dog in the car by himself, you could also just leave the key with your missus when she’s there.

Yes, make sure she presses a 2nd time, or every time she moves, the alarm will sound.

I don’t think it’s a good idea to double lock the car when your wife is inside. She will not be able to get out without the key in an emergency.

I now leave the key in the car with her!

That is not correct. If the doors are locked and the key is not inside, pulling the handle will unlock and open the door. If the alarm was not deactivated with the key before leaving, the alarm will sound, but the doors will definitely open.

That is true if you are holding the key and are outside. If someone is in the car and it locks they can not get out. Checking the manual it appears this is market specific and is true for the uk at least.

Ok, odd, it’s definitely not true in the US. Strange, and since OP is referencing an M3 Touring, he’s not in the US.

Not on the passenger side no.

That’s weird because that’s of a 24 M3… why is the Touring different?

That’s the passenger side man, but it’s not the Touring. Look at the orientation… how can it be the drivers? Lol. Anyway, I just looked at the 360 on BMWs site for the Touring and it does look like the buttons are replaced with a blank. I wonder if the wiring harness is still the same and a swap of the inner handle assembly with a sedan would get you want you need. I guess until then she could always just lean over and hit the lock button. When locked however, all inner handles do still unlock the door and open it for each respective door as long as child safety locks aren’t engaged for the back doors. All cars work like this due to safety requirements, BMW can’t deviate from it.
