I can see there is overlap and I would assume if you got CF trim, you would get that for mirror caps and spoiler, but after that, things are unclear. I guess that what I'm asking is what does the shadowline trim option (on or off) control if you opt for CF exterior trim?

If you get both CF Exterior and Shadowline Trim, the only thing Shadowline Trim will give you is the gloss black exhaust tips instead of the chrome.

I thought shadowline also got you the dark pieces in the top part of the headlights.

That's a separate option - M Shadowline Lights.

You forgot the most important piece, the carbon diffuser. Which is over $4,000 at the parts counter. Black comes with or without shadowline. Carbon is what gets replaced, as part of the carbon exterior package, which is also mirror caps and spoiler.

The manual G8X you need to "ADD" Shadownline which gets you the black spoiler and the black mirror caps, black tips. If you dont, the mirror caps and spoiler come body colored, with chrome tips.

The Competition shadowline is "Standard" the comp comes with black mirror caps, spoiler and tips. on the competition, you "remove" shadowline if you dont want everything black. Which will get replaced with chrome tips, and body colored mirror caps and spoiler.

Pictured, are the two different diffusers. Red car is carbon exterior option, Dinan car, is standard black diffuser, that comes with all cars, unless you order the carbon exterior.

On the manual base model, if you order the car with the carbon exterior package, it replaces the body colored mirror caps, spoiler, and rear blak diffuser with carbon, but, you still get chrome tips. You still have to add shadowline and carbon exterior to get black tips with the carbon.

And the same is reversed with the Competition. If you want chrome tips with the carbon exterior, you have to remove shadowline.

Keep in mind, on the manual cars, no matter if you order shadowline, or not, the rear trunk badge, and side breather badges, are always chrome on the manual, and always black on the Competition. In order to get a black rear trunk badge on the manual, you have to purchase a black competition badge, from the parts counter, replace the chrome M3/ M4 badge with the black, and discard the "COMPETITION" part of the badge that you received with it.
