Digital key plus?

I’ve been used to digital key - first on ‘21 G20 and then ‘23 G26.

If I’m reading this correctly, my ‘24 G82 should have digital key plus, so no need to actually touch they key. Also noted in the spring ‘24 software updates that all iDrive 8 cars should have digital key plus.

Has anyone been able to get digital key plus working on their g80/82? I have been using the regular touch the handle approach since I got my g82.

Huh? Just walk up the car with the key in your pocket and open the door. Cars have been like that for years. Digital key plus just refers to the ability to do that with a smartphone.

That's quite interesting they note 2023+ 3-series and 2024+ 4-series should support Digital Key Plus (since the M3 and M4 are part of their respective #-series lineups) but there's no Digital Key Plus currently on any M3 or M4 as of now. Perhaps we'd get it via a software update coming soon, but I'm skeptical.

Official press release from April 2023. This would seem to say that any Digital Key enabled vehicle would get the upgrade to Plus...

I'm not seeing that language. This was announcing digital key plus now available on Android for vehicles with digital key plus.

that's a dealer posting that information and it's incorrect. The 3 and 4 don't have UWB, thus they only get the digital key (not plus).

Haven't seen details on the LCI 4 yet.

This is the product update I was referring to. Note the section on all ID8+ getting digital key plus.

I'd say that's for new production vehicles beginning in Spring 2024. Not retroactive as many vehicles don't have UWB (2 Series, 3 Series, 4 Series)

What new production vehicles in spring 2024 still have iD8 though? Seems oddly worded. I would be pleasantly surprised but still skeptical. They could theoretically have put the hardware in but haven't activated it yet (Hyundai did the same thing for Wireless Carplay/AA as they're enabling it via OTA slowly).

The text is poorly worded, but if they had UWB with iDrive 8, why not have it active from the start with the LCI 3 Series for MY23?

Software wasn't ready for the specific implementation in the G2x/G8x? Just playing devil's advocate with that wording, I agree that I'm not expecting it though.

i would potentially be willing to hold out some hope that there is unactivated UWB hardware in the car, if there was even a single example ever of BMW retroactively updating something like this for existing cars. but afaik there isn't, they never do such things unfortunately, and thus it's pretty much 100% certain that digital key plus isn't happening on this platform until at least the LCI.
