Although I came from a quick shifting 911 GTS PDK, at partial throttle G80 M3 does a good job and don't mind the slight delay one bit. It's when I go WOT that bothers me. But probably not enough to sell the car.
Under heavy load or WOT you need to hit the paddle 3-400RPM before redline or it won't shift on time. When you hit redline it shifts even slower. I agree that there are work around but it wasn't something I wanted to deal with. Why change from a 991 GTS to a G80? Did you need the space? I'm sure you made off quite well trading in the 911

Long story but went from 718 GTS to 911 GTS to 718 GT4. Missed the 911 and want to go back to one but price is just ridiculous right now and I'd figure I enjoy the M3 and importantly time spent with the family in it on road trips.

And yes I did well on trading in the GT4 and with this stock market condition, I wanted to have some extra cash to invest.

In a couple of years, I'm sure things will change and I will be in a much better position to get an allocation for a 992 GTS. But for now, I thoroughly enjoy the M3. Maybe enough to try out the M3CS as well!

That's an interesting change to make but I'm glad it was for the best! I went from a M3 Comp AWD to the 718 GTS and I'm getting a 718 Spyder which is on order. Luckily I'm getting ym Spyder at MSRP so if I change my mind I'll be able to walk away without a problem.

i have a 911 (991.2 base)

In the M3C, there is a noticeable lag in the registering from when you hit the paddle to the shift. I don't think the shift itself is slow - but it's delayed.

The lag was soo drastic that I hit the rev limiter about 3x in 20 mins and you have to shift way before the shift light turns red.

I have one on order because my 911 isn't the best for my family, but I'm hesitating because the 911 and PDK is soo perfect.

The 911 feels like you are DIRECTLY shifting the car when you hit a paddle.
The ZF8 feels like you are telling a computer to shift the car and it's not direct. Kind of like when you hit the keyboard and you see the letter you typed like .5 seconds after you typed it.

I don't know if I got used to it but there doesn't seem to be that much delay now. When I shift at red shift light or only 200-300 rpm before redline it shifts without banging the limiter.

M3C is still wroth it imo for family trips. We just did a camping trip with our 4 and 7 year old and was amazed how much stuff we could fit in the trunk.

I had that much in my F80 plus 3 folding chairs and boogie board. All in the trunk

A little update: after the car is warmed up enough (5 minutes or so of driving normally) and the first time I WOT the shift is very slow toward redline; however, after doing this 3-4 times back to back of shifting at redline, I noticed less delay each time. So I'm guessing that the transmission just needs to be warmed up a bit. This was true with my old 911 but only after a couple of times.

This was the same case with my former GT3. The PDK didn't want to snap into gears as it normally does until driving for 5-10 minutes after reaching engine operating temps.

Without reading through the whole thread the red line moves right as the car warms up.

Please Excuse if this has been posted.

Most likely you're right, at full throttle when the car is making full torque it takes a bit of time to pull timing, lower boost and close the throttle a bit to give the trans some breathing room to change gears, while at part throttle it's instantaneous since the power level is much lower.
I'm sure you could see this when you're logging it, once the commanded gear changes to the next one you could probably see what the computer does to the throttle/timing/boost.

It may not be as fun, but let the car shift as its faster and you won't hit the limiter.

I've noticed the 1-2 shift at WOT to be the most laggy out of all of them

I notice it and it's annoying. Yes, I can short shift my way around it, but I don't like it. Otherwise, the car is fantastic, so I just try to ignore it. After reading this thread I'll probably be annoyed again for a few months 🤪

This is so not scientific nor with a control to base off.

Hour ago it happened to me. I used the gear shifter, not the paddle, leaving from red and making slow left before long straight, and the delay at WOT from 1st to 2nd was so long that the car auto-shifted at redline. At least I think it did: the lag was so shockingly slow that I may have pulled the upshift paddle as an emergency escape reaction. I was in M2 which is Sport+ and S3. It's my favorite for the drive home via twisties, and this was my first time accelerating hard at that red left turn.

Does the M4CX auto have an auto shift at redline for dummie moments such as this?

Using paddles there has never been a delay or maybe I haven't been WOT or maybe I pulled paddle nanosecond before redline. I try to shift around 6200rpm.

Thinking about making my M2 a Sport + D3, but that drive home using paddles always makes me smile.

Im experiencing same "issues" on my G87, i assume its exactly the same tranny maybe with a slightly different tune. When going WOT 1 - 2 - 3 is nice and snappy, then 3 - 4 shifting past 5k rpm is laggy, but not always, it seems to get better once I do more aggressive shifting couple times. Its strange, im still trying to figure out the exact circumstances. It also only happens when going 2 - 3 - 4 without a pause WOT, not just 3 - 4, that was always fine. Good to know it seems like as designed though, probably not worth bothering my bmw contacts.

This problem is solved if you upload the CS/CSL gearbox software
