Door projector lights?

Saw the projector door lights and want to get some but quick question. The door on the g8x already has a light in it, correct? So can’t I just buy the slides? Or for the slides to work do I need to buy the full light insert? The slides are like $35 and the full light insert was like $135? Sorry just a bit confused.

You need to purchase the door projectors first. Then you can swap out different slides they come with or purchase different slides. You cannot just purchase lets say the M perfomance slides.

Got it. Do you have any idea how to install them? I tried a search on here but couldn’t find anything.

I'm assuming the process is very similar to this...

It’s pretty easy to install yourself. Pop out the light under the door with a tool. Unplug it. Plug in the new light. Insert slide. Pop back in. Tons of YouTube videos on this.

Before I dropped off my car for ppf I attempted install…
I was able to pop out the existing light using a flat head screw driver as instructed. Very easy.

That's when I stopped.

I couldn't get the connection undone without feeling like I was going to break it.

Any tips? I hate when something so seemingly simplistic doesn't work and is so damn hard.

I don't remember exactly, but take a close look at the plug and see if you can figure out how to pull it apart. I'm pretty sure I just reached down and separated it with one hand.

Yeah I only tried on one door. Maybe when I get my car back, I'll look at a different door.
To be honest, I may have dealer just do it next week when I take it in to have my MP steering wheel put in. How much time could they possibly bill for putting those in? Lol. Even if they just remove them for me. I'll put them in.

The dealer sort of pro rates accessories. If they charged the time that it actually took to install them, people would never buy anything. You may get them to do it for free, for you. You also have to adjust the slides, inside, because you can rotate them to a different angle.

Good point. I do remember seeing posts about people having to adjust the projection right side up.
Thanks dude

the short version 50mm for G82 is harder to install then the earlier version. And one door is definitely easier for me to unplug the connector. I am not sure if its because of the interlock. But you don't really need BMW help...even I can do it myself and I am not the most technical person. I didn't bother to adjust the projection and it all depending on how wide you want to open your car door and for the logo to look right.

Basically the same process as this. Took all of 10 minutes.

I'm mechanically inept, and I was able to install the projectors in a matter of minutes. Most of the time is spent adjusting the slides so they're angled correctly when the door is open. For me that meant taking apart the passenger-side slide holder to flip the slide, plus iteratively removing and reinserting the projector to access the thumbwheel to fine-tune the angle. Then end result was worth the effort (looks great on snow or our epoxy garage floor) ...

So the 68mm is for the g80?

Installing is easy. Replacing the slides though depends on your eye sight and size of your hands, and let's say for me it was the challenging part.

It doesn't help that all the parts are small and black including the + and 0 and marks you have to line up.

Wearing a headlamp was a huge help in replacing the slides and adjusting the projectors once plugged in (i.e., lying on my back underneath the open door).

Watch the video and take your time disconnecting the projector from the plug. I did it in 15 minutes and im not mechanically inclined. Unless the dealer is willing to do it for free, it's a complete waste of time and money. You will inevitably want to adjust the direction yourself and that requires popping it out again.

Found these if anyone is interested. A lot less cheaper too.

Installed. Took about 10 minutes. Hardest part was swapping the slides lol. I used a plastic trim removal tool to take out the factory lights.

There's a 3-slide set that's available separately from the slides that come with the projectors themselves.
